I was just at GoDaddy's site to change the nameservers for a parked domain I am using with the DixieSys 2 for 1 sale and found that GD has an excellent price on .US domains.

Lots more of those available than there are the .com, .net, .org domains, and the pricing is $6.95 per year or $12.90 for 2 years. Got BILLS-PLACE.US as my first choice and just have it parked with GD for the time being. NICE deal!

GoDaddy Screwed me, I tried to transfer a domain to them the day my domain was to expire, and they didn't do it in time. SO they charge me 7.75 and I have nothing for it. After I sent an email to them about what happened "The domain name expired, sorry, you'll have to reregister with your original provider and then we can transfer it" Sorry, but to register with my old registrar is gonna cost me and additional $13 to reregister versus the $10 it would have cost to renew through the same registrar.

ARGH!

Most geographic .US domain names are ... FREE.

That is: foo.TownCity.State.MA

This has been the way for a long time.

So, paying $$ to Godaddy or Neustar is just plain nuts.

(I'm the registrar for domain names in my town)

They have had a warning up for well over a year that domains cannot be transferred that are about to expire, nor domains created within the last 30 days. They have also offered for free one attempt to try a transfer again within 30 days if an attempted transfer failed for any reason. If you didn't read the rules on how transfers are done, you really can't blame godaddy for your not understanding what has been spelled out quite clearly for a long time.

has anyone RENEWED a domain with 7.50 of GoDaddy? I was quite stunned to notice that 7.50 ask $14.95 for a renewal, regardless of the number of years.
It would be cheaper to transfer to godaddy and then renew it seems, although the renewal rates of godaddy are not listed and I think 7.50 is a reseller...
Hum...

I had a better experience. I also tried to transfer a domain to them the day before the expiration day. I saw the fine print on their site saying "We cannot transfer domains less than 1 week left to the expiration", just after I had completed my transfer order. I kept my fingers crossed and about a week later the transfer was succesully completed

help me and my senile brain:
registering the domain name is just that?-
you need to also have someone hold the DNS record to point
your name to a site/server/url?? how much is that?
