Cheap (like 30 bucks) rice cookers suck ass. The rice they make is so crappy compared to rice I've made in the freakin microwave. Rice from my gf's rice cooker is amazing, I imagine it was over 100 bucks...

Who the hell designed a pessure cooker / rice cooker that doesn't cook the rice any damn faster? That's 99% of what makes pressure cookers so great.

There we have it. This dude/chick has brought up Uncle Ben's and claims it's "just fine" in a thread where the OP is trolling for criticism over his Zojirushi e-peen.

Does anyone have friends who have never opened their computer case? The friends or family who don't know the difference between system memory and hard drive space? Have you ever told one of those people how much you spent on your video card? This is analogous to what's going on in this thread. Uncle Ben's, a pot on the stove, a $20 rice cooker, the $170 Zojirushi, and the induction heating model.

They're all fine solutions... except for the Uncle Ben's, of course. Instead of fighting amongst ourselves over who has the best solution, we should unite and focus our efforts on making fun of the guy who doesn't have enough sense to not eat Uncle Ben's!

BTW, my e-peen is a Zojirushi 5-1/2 cup Neuro Fuzzy. I've had it for 2 years, and I love it.

Asians can't cook rice without a rice cooker?

I would say most Asians don't know how to cook rice without a rice cooker.

And most people buy rice cookers once, maybe twice in their lifetime.

More like they enjoy the convenience and like having hot rice for an extended time period.

If you like having to watch/monitor your rice cook and then have it go cold, all the power to you.

Me, I can put the rice in the cooker, turn it on, go running for a hour/take the dogs for a walk/etc then come back to hot rice.

That's greeeeaaaaaaat...see, when I cook, I prepare the food and time its preparation so that it is ready at about the time I'm planning to sit down and eat it. I guess I've been doing it wrong all these years. You don't cook the food when you're ready to eat, you cook it hours in advance and just keep it warm...kind of like McDonalds.

I've had good luck with this.

It cooks rice as well as any rice cooker. Anyone with enough skill in the kitchen to boil water and set a timer can cook great rice every time with this device.

Oh, and I don't eat crap rice.

Wow, you get lamer and lamer with your anti-rice cooker posts. It's rice and not a steak. Unlike your pot, the rice in a rice cooker will stay the same hours without any attention. Some folks also like to have access to rice often and don't won't to have to pull out a pot every time and have to cook it.

Kind of funny how people with rice cookers don't complain about people that cook with rice with pots but lamers like you need to explain how superior you are.

Like I said, while you're sitting there cooking your rice in a pot, I can go for run and do other stuff.

This device appears to require a cooking surface. I rarely can spare one when cooking anything that goes best with rice.

I see. So when you eat it with something else, you must then time the recipe going with the rice so that it's done and ready to be served at exactly the same time? How delightfully primitive. Do you also watch TV as it airs using an antenna hooked right into your TV?

we've had a black n decker rice cooker for 20 years. cost $12.00. never made rice in it tho, strictly for perfect-every-time hard boiled eggs in 30 minutes.

almost like that commercial "set it and forget it".

Yeah thats called 'knowing how to cook'.

Watching TV live with an antenna is called 'knowing how to plan your day'. What's your point? Both are inferior forms that can be made easier through a simple device (Rice cooker or DVR/VCR).

The main thing about cooking is planning a meal so everything is ready at the same time.

Any idiot can follow a recipe.

I'm guessing you've never cooked in a professional kitchen?

This is true.

Besides, what the fuck is this argument. I spent money on great hardware that will deliver a quality product everytime. The end result is

1. Bombass rice
2. GF loves to cook because she no longer has to worry about said rice
3. GF has more time to concentrate on other things <insert jokes here>

It's really not any different than dropping 250 on a piece of computer hardware, or 100 bucks for a remote, etc etc etc
