i have a ton of contacts, but it won't show up in my address book, so when i send an email and click on "To" to select the recipient, there's nothing. i've gone through the steps to select my "contacts" folder as the source for my address book, but outlook tells me that there's nothing there. bullsh!t.

This happens to me whenever I move my *.pst file to a clean-installed OS. For the life of me I can't remember exactly how I fixed it, but I recall that it has something to do with getting Outlook to reindex/relink the "Address Book" list to the Contacts.

I know that isn't very useful, but I'll try to see if I can find the steps involved...

Is contacts added.....

Check - Tools / Options / Mail Setup tab / Email accounts button. Then Directory / check view or change / outlook address book / click Change button. Should now show Contacts..... If not click Add / Additional address books / select Contacts.....

If it does, suggest remove it and re add.

I have only used Outlook 2002, so don't know if this applies to other versions. You also have to right-click on the Contacts folder, choose Properties, then put a checkmark in the "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" setting (on the Outlook Address Book tab).

I do this before going into the Tools menu to change the other settings mentioned above.

In Outlook 2003 -- go to Tools -- E-mail Account -- View or change existing e-mail -- Add -- go through and add it.

To get address book showing (it defaults to the address book in contact in the default directory), open address book from the standard tool bar -- Tools -- Options -- Show this address first (then select the address book, which is the new contacts folder). Then when you click new and to should see your contacts -- if not go to Show Names from the: -- and use the pull down -- go back to address book and select show this address first
