No, they weren't, that I saw. Ultimas and Might and Magic were.
Picked up the Might and Magic 6 pack...we'll see how long the nostalgia can keep me playing MM2 Gates to Another World.
Those early ones are really dated, but M&M 6 was great.

I find that a lot of these games have aged beyond the point of being playable Ultima Underworld is hideous, my eyes hurt looking at it. But at the time it was masterful.
Man, I wish they would remake some of these classics.
To be honest with you, I have found that there is this period of time from around 1994-2000 in which the majority of games have aged horribly. This corresponds to the beginning of the 3D era. Games were made in 3D simply because it was what was happening, not because it really made sense. Graphically, many of those games would have aged much nicer had they used higher detailed, better animated 2D sprites.

I tried playing Final Fantasy 7 for the first time a couple of years ago. The 10-polygon 3D models are eye searingly awful without nostalgia glasses. They really needed to stay as 2D for PS1 games for the non-pre-rendered gameplay.
FWIW, I thought it looked terrible at the time. The environments looked great, but the characters were awful!
