Just announced on GOG, not sure how it all works yet :

https://www.gog.com/news/introducing_gog_connect

Connect your Steam account and grow or jumpstart your GOG.com library.
Today, we're launching a new program called GOG Connect. The premise is simple: connect your Steam account and add your eligible games to your GOG.com library.
Whether you're checking us out for the first time or have been with us for a while, GOG Connect gets you DRM-free versions of your games, digital extras, and a whole lot of freedom of choice (like whether you go with the GOG Galaxy client or not). It gets you our take on game ownership, and we say: why buy the games more than once?
Thanks to our awesome partners including Deep Silver, Harebrained Schemes, Jonathan Blow's Number None, TaleWorlds and more, you can now add more than 20 games to your GOG.com library if you previously purchased them on Steam.
The full list of games will always be available on connect.gog.com, starting with these and more:
- The Witness
- FTL: Faster Than Light
- The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final Cut
- Galactic Civilizations 3
- Trine Enchanted Edition
- Saints Row 2
- Shadowrun Returns
- The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
While GOG Connect will stick around, the available games will come and go. These are limited-time offers made possible by participating developers and publishers, so stay tuned as we bring new titles onboard in the future (and grab your copies before they go away)!
For a bit more library-building, a bunch of our favorite titles will also be discounted up to -85% all week long, including The Witness, Saints Row: The Third, System Shock 2 and more. You can check out all the deals here. The sale will last until June 6, 12:59 PM UTC.

Sounds pretty awesome. I'm on board. Question about it, though. Do we have to perform some action to secure eligible titles while they're offered or do we get them added to our GOG as they're offered automatically?

Edit: In the FAQ:

We'll be doing our best to expand GOG Connect in the future! You'll need to import new games when they're added, so stay tuned and check back regularly to see if anything new has been added.

Really glad GOG is doing this.

The initial offering of connectable games is kinda weak, so I hoping more developers and publishers get on board with this.

At some point, I think I will have gog.com copies of 5 more games. But it's super slammed right now.

Wow, this is great!. This means you can buy a cheap Steam game anywhere and get an extra drm free copy if it's available.

no, not really.

There is a limited list of games for which they offer this service. Suggests that list may grow, but it all depends on those publishers getting on board.

So basically, if Steam were to ever die, you'd have a copy of the game some place else.

That's what I was thinking, then I realized its only two games, I have to share my password with GOG and how good is their security plus GOG is far more likely to close before steam. Having access to steam free DRM for FTL and Xenonauts just doesn't justify the hassle.

Sounds good in theory, and I see that GOG had to update their privacy policy to be more steam friendly, but, the odd thing here is the "limited time only" part.

I wonder if they are going to have a ML telling people which games get added and removed ?

Great feature, too bad I already own duplicate copies of most of the games in common with both systems.

#5 from the faqs. https://www.gog.com/connect#

5. Is this process secure? What, if any, Steam account credentials do you store on GOG.com?

The process is secure as can be – logging in to your Steam account is handled entirely through the official Steam API. We'll only look at your Steam ID to determine which games you own, and show you your Steam username and avatar.
It also sounds like they will add more games in the future but you will have to import them during the eligibility periods. It sounds as if it's a way to get you to keep coming back to gog's site which is fine by me.

So what? The beauty of GOG's games is that they don't need GOG to operate. GOG goes down and you can still be playing the games 15 years later. All you have to do is save them somewhere.

Exactly and highly unlikely that GOG will close anytime soon.

6 games for me, already had several on both GoG & Steam anyway. Service is a useful addition to the already great GoG.

Don't misunderstand me, I think it a great addition to GOG just not for me right now.

Well, tried it out, added my steam account, and it didn't pick up Saints Row 2.
It says I can manually add it, but, I don't see how?

Is this only picking up games you have installed and not games sitting in your account? I can't confirm as it picked up 4 installed games and I don't think I have any of the others sitting in my account.

If it only picks up installed games I wonder if simply initializing the install in Steam is enough to get the free copy at GOG.
