...makes me feel like this:

Seriously, it sucks and is kind of annoying being surrounded by about 20000 18-20 year olds. Well, except for the eye candy. :awe:

Don't sweat it. You have a huge advantage over the 'youts' in school. One of my friends finished her Geology degree at 60.

Meh, I went back to school at 28 to get my masters, no big deal. If you are doing a grad program, you'll probably have more folks who are older/late 20's/early 30's/have kids.

Noting new, had a 54 year old classmate when I was in college in the late '70s. An Aunt took her PhD (Education) in her late 60s.

I wish. I'm still finishing a bachelor's.

Even back in the early 70s about 1/4 of all students were over 25 (the threshold for non-traditional at the time). It's now about 1/2 over 25, and almost 25% over 35. In other words, you're not in the minority any longer.

I'm just about to start school again this fall. I'll be 30 at the end of this week. It is grad school though so the age is a little more than 18-22 (more in the 22-26 age range). However, most of my fellow grad students seem to have been lifelong academics and many are a little naive about what the real world is all about.

Ha! I'm that age and want to go back into the phd math program. I'd be further along in the application if I didn't have to stop and yell at all the kids that keep wanting to congregate on my lawn.

That may be true if you count all students (my school has a ton of part time programs, distance education, etc) but there's no way that's the case for the average, full-time, live on or near campus population. At least not here.

I start my final semester next week and I'm 30. I started back when I was 28 and felt incredibly old but, strangely enough, nobody noticed my age. It helps that I look pretty young but there are a lot of 22-year-olds that look pretty old as well. That being said, I'm not sure my back can take another semester of sitting in those awful chairs on campus.

I've been far more successful this time through school than I was the first time so I sort of wish I had waited and not gone right out of high school. I could have saved myself a lot of money.

Honestly I don't think many young people really care about your age.

When I was in school a couple years ago (20) I had a 40-50 something year old group member. Honestly I find the older classmates more focused and dedicated. They wasted less of my time and I learned a lot from them. Especially about the real world. I went to college straight from high school.

In fact one of my better friends from college was 27 at the time i met him. I was 20.

I wouldn't worry about being older. Most kids won't care. And you'll make some friends along the way. May even meet some people your age.

I felt out going back for my grad at 24... The first-years all look like jailbait even though half are 18. Felt worse when I left/finished at 26.

The good thing is that professors and other older people (grads) take you more seriously, and talk to you more. Kiddies occasionally look to the old guy for guidamce/nsight.

Remember that 30-year-old in your freshman class that kept asking the professor relevant questions about the material, preventing him from releasing the entire class 20 minutes early?

That's you! :awe:

Nah, in my undergrad, it was always one guy with a REALLY annoying voice. It was a broken-English, slurred accent with lots of "ummmmmmmms "... Fuck, that guy was annoying. Every single freaking class... And because I was in engineering, we all took the same classes until 3rd year, then we all took half the classes that were the same.

Honestly at 23, I feel like I should have waited until now to go to college. At 18 I was a dumb piece of shit who only cared about getting laid. Going back now with proper study habits, maturity, and an understanding of how best to teach myself, I think I'd do very well.

It's not as bad as you might think. I went back at 30 and loved it. Sure I was older than some of the classmates, but not all are right out of high school.

It's the national numbers overall, which of course is the only thing that matters a damn.
