If you go online you can be tracked. You cannot, I repeat, cannot go off the grid without giving up almost all modern conveniences. No bank accounts, no credit cards, no car or drivers license (can't let the evil DMV get your name), can't have health insurance or go to the hospital.

If you're not willing to go all the way about it it's not worth it. There will still be a large enough trail that it won't matter.
