Going over speed bump really fast

Hey guys, I just went over a speed bump at fairly high speeds due to not paying attention. The speed bump was not at a steep angle or very high but nonetheless, it is a speed bump. I am wondering if and what kind of issue might this cause. Appreciate any responses, thanks.

I must say that I have very little knowledge about fixing or even looking at maintenance issues. Maybe bring it up at the next service?

Look for blown shocks (fluid leaking out of them).

Other than that if the car drives straight you're probably okay.

Have not seen any fluid leaking but I also haven't checked for it. I will check for it now though. The car seems to drive OK other than me observing it more carefully.

I must be going around 30 MPH or so, not sure, over that rounded and fairly long speed bump. Should I take it in tomorrow and have it checked out?

If it doesn't feel funny or sound funny, it's probably fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

If you want some peace of mind sure... but I would make sure you trust the shop you take the car to. Hey, can you look at my car and see if you can find something wrong with it you can charge me money to fix? :sneaky:

I have been going to the same place for years.

I do appreciate everyone's replies. Hopefully it wasn't too bad though I will take a look and see if anything is leaking or not.

I occasionally drive a co-worker to and from work...but will NOT go through her gate and over a half-dozen steel i-beams embedded in the roadway...she can walk the last 100 yards...

I would imagine if there was a problem, you'd know it right afterwards. I guess there is always the possibility you cracked something just slightly enough it hasn't caused a problem yet, but will be a major point of failure.

I drive over those things at 20+mph all the time, never had an issue. The only ones that really bother me are when they have 2 speed bumps in a row.

That said, most "regular roads" around here get about as bad as a trail of speed bumps due to potholes and such in the winter.

What drives me nut's is the lake of consistency in speed bumps. Some you can drive over fine at 10-15 mph, which to me means they are designed correctly. However their are some speed bumps that you have to almost come to a fricking stop and then go over they are built so high.

the best ones are those + the ones that blend in to the pavement so you can barely see them.

around here they vary a lot. ones that are ~2 ft wide and like 2 inches high with a gentle slope and yellow paint to something like 6" wide and 4" high as if a asphalt truck took a dump.

the worst are the 3 sided ones with a sharp angle between the ramps and the top. the whole thing is 6" tall and maybe a foot long. have to pretty much come to a complete stop for those, and make sure to hit perpendicular.

Hey guys,

I went over a very deep pothole which was filled with water at night, making it hard to spot.

I had the car lifted and no suspension components are bent, however, the passenger side (side which hit the pothole) now sits slightly lower than the drivers side.

I am able to fit four fingers between the tire and wheel arch in the drivers front, but only 3 fingers on the passenger side front, and 3 fingers on the drivers rear, but only 2 on the passenger rear.

Also, after getting an alignment, the car pulls to the right very slightly when the steering wheel is center.

Think the springs and shocks are just shot on that side? Other than pulling slightly to the right, no other issues, no odd sounds, bumpy ride, etc.

I'd get the alignment re-checked, make sure the wheel was centered when they did the alignment. I'd also check your tires for bubbles.

are you sure the suspension was even all the way around before?

I brought it back to the tire shop and they double checked the alignment and even showed me the readings on the computer.

Yes, one of the winter tires did develop a bubble, had it replaced but I swapped over the summer tires when I did the alignment.

I am not sure if suspension was even all-around before, the car has 130K so it could have been uneven for a while but I am unsure.

with 130k it might be a good idea to replace the shocks anyway. what kind of car is it?
