I have always wondered at how little defense was provided to Palin by women's groups like NOW when the political attacks immediately turned personal. Palin faced the worst kind of sexists insults against herself, her kids, her husband.
Speaking of which it seems the First Dude has resigned from his job in the North Slopes and is going to be living off the proceeds Tundra Barbies book. Score!!!
Maybe NOW can intervene on Todd's behalf now that he's a little muffin-baking bitch living off his wife's book proceeds?
Seriously, if you had to live with that Yenta for all those years and she finally made bank would you still work on the North Slope? Next for them is to get the hell out of Alaska and move to someplace with decent weather.

Look, kids! Equal opportunity lives! Misogyny and misandry in one thread!
Lol, I'm just playin, sometimes I can't help but tweek the nose of you feminists:evil:

While I have said the same things in other Palin threads, I find it somewhat amazing that Sarah Palin has not done the needed self studying to really get up to speed on all the various Washington DC National issues.

Sarah Palin's general ignorance of national issues may have been understandable in late August/2008 when McCain, out of the blue, suddenly picked her to be his running mate. And partly fault the McCain campaign managers who exploited Palin's quick study ability to be an emotional and polarizing figure able to charge up the very right wing of the GOP that McCain failed to excite. But still, in the grand scheme of things, McCain and his mouth doomed his general election chances when he glaringly underestimated the severity of the financial meltdown in 9/2008. And by then, Sarah Palin was alienating more non far right GOP voters than she energized on the far right. And even then its an academic question, the McCain Palin ticket lost rather big in 2008, and in both the
Presidential and Legislative vote counts.

So we must face the facts, we are now talking about a golden opportunity to take over the leadership of the rather rudderless GOP. I think its safe to say, 2008 was McCain's last hurrah's, and now he is simply too old. Gov. Sanfort has self destructed, I see no credible GOP candidates credible from the various legislative branches, and in my mind, a credible Sarah Palin could be in a position to make a run at GOP leadership.

And instead, like a one trick pony, Palin has opted to remain ignorant and polarizing. A route to personal riches even in a field already populated by the likes of Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck, but not a road that will ever lead to either political power or electability.

Mark Steyn recently pointed out, quite accurately,

The media (and leftish P&N posters! - PJ) would like the American Right to be represented by the likes of Bob Dole and John McCain, decent old sticks who know how to give dignified concession speeches. Last time round, we went along with their recommendation. If you want to get rave reviews for losing gracefully, that's the way to go. If you want to win, look at whom the Democrats and their media chums are so frantic to destroy: That's the better guide to what they're really worried about.

A publishing industry source told POLITICO that they ?cannot remember a non-fiction book taking off like this in the pre-order market. It became number one only a couple of hours after nothing more than a date announcement. It is truly unprecedented.?

tops Barnes and Noble best seller list before publication

Much of the 400-page book is based on journals Palin kept during her vice-presidential run.

Should be a very interesting read, maybe prescient as to how the Right intends to play out the 2010 and 2012 elections.

Mark Steyn is an idiot if he believes that. Sarah Palin is a dream come true for the DNC and the media in general.

Extreme social conservatism will never win general elections again, the wingnuts scare the crap out of the independents.

What can win? Responsible fiscal conservatism combined with social moderation. A social moderate shouldn't pander to the far right fundamentalists, nor to the leftists, but should adopt a hands-off policy as far as possible. It fits with classical conservatism to begin with, the concept of individual liberty trumping gov't bureaucracy.

By responsible fiscal conservatism I don't mean massive deficit spending combined with low taxes a la Bush/Obama. I mean actually cutting spending while keeping taxes moderate to low.

Now where's our candidate? It sure as fuck isn't Palin. Hint to the deluded : stop listening to Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter or any other hacks, and go read some WFB and historically crucial pieces in the National Review. If the rabid fringe nutters get their way and we get someone trying to appease the far right, it's going to be an even larger bust in '12 than it was this time around. Every single GOP loyalist could show up and vote for him/her, but with no independents, it's a sunk ship folks.

You really think its that high?

Keep in mind that includes books about them and that number was rounded up.

Or because organizations like NOW are nothing but political hacks for the Democratic Party and have nothing to do with supporting 'women'.

Recalling some of the articles from last fall, I think the general consensus was that palin had done much more damage to women than good.

You mean like how you are nothing but a political hack for the Republican party and have nothing to do with making this a better country for everybody?

I'd respect your opinion more if it wasn't selectively applied.
I don't care if someone like you respects my opinion or not. Either way it's irrelevant, what I told you is true. Either stop being such a shitty troll and learn how to start trolling these boards for real, or act like an adult.
I disagree. He should continue to be such a shitty troll. It helps P&N newcomers quickly learn who they can dismiss as irrelevant.

Palin faced the worst kind of sexists insults against herself, her kids, her husband. You can see these attacks in almost every anti-Palin post in this thread. Out of the hundreds of womens groups, who came to her defense? Though I am sure that we have at least a couple of women perusing P&N, we sure see the male misogyny in full display. And for those P&N women who read these posts and do nothing, do you feel vicariously liberated?
The attacks on Palin had nothing to do with her gender, and everything to do with her flaws.

You don't see womens' groups rushing to defend the woman who tried to shoot President Ford just because a woman.

And we don't have idiots saying that the critics of that would-be assassin are making sexist attacks, because she's not a right-wing figure, who benefits from the right-wing idiot mob.
Exactly. Palin is an embarrassment to successful, capable women. She reinforces so many misogynistic stereotypes that she is a net negative for them. I'll also note the hypocrisy of partisans like PJ who shamelessly flog the misogyny card while denouncing the race card with Obama. Pure hackery.

Well said. I can guarantee I won't be voting for Palin in 2012. If Republicans are again duped into running her by their extremist fringe, it will be a choice between Obama and third-party candidates.

Indeed. I am scared shitless of her, because her ignorance, stupidity, lack of rationality, and all-around misguided ideas are what's going to destroy this country.

What she tells the right is that it's OK to be an ignorant, fiscally liberal, socially intolerant, "maverick" (since when did this become a *GOOD* thing???? Wasn't that a lesson of Top Gun?), who can appeal to the same in order to propel ones self into political power.

The other possible problem with a Palin Presidency lies in her dearth of Washington insider support, because job one of any President is to surround themselves with good advisers with political experience.

Being a maverick is often not the asset its cracked up to be, especially when it interferes with the job one needed to hit the ground running. Perhaps one of the faults of the GWB administration was in surrounding himself with a too small inner circle of control freaks who did not know how to delegate responsibilities. Meaning that a few steps down the ladder, anarchy was in charge in terms of getting all of the critical details right.

That's the way boss cheney wanted it. It's easier to control fewer people.
