Going to baltimore

Hey the gf and I are gonna do a day trip/mini getaway to baltimore next month and I definitely want to see Camden Yards as I've been told it is beautiful. The Mets play their next month so we are gonna go thursday morning, hang out for the day, see the game at night and stay over to have a whole day friday for site seeing and such...

I don't know anything about Baltimore except that its like a 6 hour drive from the jersey shore... is the stadium near a nice part of the city? How is parking? I'm not sure how this kind thing works out, we've never really gone anywhere like this alone (just graduated college).

There's nothing to worry about except fanny packs, strollers and souvenir merchants.

The aquarium is nearby, and is nice. A bit further on things get pretty slummy.

Yeah I was completely off on that, is 3 from my house. I kind of just got 6 hours of my life back no?

Stay around Inner Harbor and you'll have a good time. Been there are couple of times to catch the Red Sox, its always a good time and the park is great.

Check out Fells Point for a drinking spot. It's college age oriented, but there's also some upscale restaurants, and you can catch some live music.

The few blocks that make up the Inner Harbor are fine. Just don't go east of Camden Yards or north of Baltimore street.

Oh, and let me know what you think of the Hilton hotel across the street from Camden Yards. I spent 7 months constructing that building, but have yet to see the completed product.

We JUST did this trip this past weekend for the Yankee game on Saturday. Let me tell you, its totally worth it. The park and the surrounding area is beautiful. Hung out at the inner harbor during the day, had lunch, etc. Then headed over to Pickles (outdoor bar huge area everyone hanging out) where they had TWO beers for FIVE dollars. And im talking beer - Heineken, Yuengling, Sam Adams, etc.

Anyway after like an hour of drinking there we headed in, had a great time at the game even tho Yanks lost. Everyone was very nice, friendly trash talking, etc. We got great seats and they arent ridiculously overpriced.

After the game, back to pickles area. For another 3 hours of drinking and hanging outside before we walked (stumbled) back to our hotel.

We stayed at the Sheraton and it was only $100 a night. Great hotel, 5 minute walk to the park (you could see the whole stadium from our window)

And its not 6 hours. I got there in 3.5 hrs from Englewood (practically just across the river from Yankee stadium)

Tolls will cost around $30 round trip.

The Hilton looks awesome. As we were walking by it, we were like damn it would be awesome to get a room there and just watch the game from the hotel!!

sounds like a good trip. cheap too. might have to do that with the gf. funny, i'm in haworth(just a few minutes from englewood. small town if you didnt know)

a trip to yankee stadium will run you almost as much as a trip to baltimore it sounds like

Another vote here for Fells Point, and yeah, stay West of Camden Yards. Lots of great pubs and restaurants down by the water.

I agree with what everyone else has said and would like, in addition, to suggest Fort McHenry if you like history at all. Also, I ate a restaurant called Luigi's and it had the best chicken parm I've ever tasted. Have fun!

Yeah, some of the views from the south balconies are amazing once you get above the 12th floor or so. We would try and catch as many of the games as possible while building up the decks. However, this was my favorite place to sit and watch the games.

The Sheraton was only 100 a night? Its showing as 160 for me, which isn't bad but 100 would be better of course. I'm looking at that place and the Peabody which is 120. I woulda thought a thursday night would be cheaper than the weekends but it doesn't seem so.

I'm thinking about getting tickets behind home plate for 55 or along the visitors dugout (anyone know which side that is at Camden) for ~30. I've always heard behind home is the best place to sit but I feel like I wouldn't get a great view of the actual game and field from there...

Sure I know Haworth... And for the record, ive been to new Yankee stadium twice this year, and the trips to the stadium cost me just about as much as this trip including hotel, tolls, gas. (We shared some costs with other people we went with) And I had a better time there than I did at New YS. What an atmosphere both in and outside the ballpark... Ill be going down again this year for sure... too bad the next yanks visit is during the week, but ill go catch some other team on a weekend.

We sat in Lower Box 64 for $65 a ticket bought on ticketmaster back in March. It was a great view from row XX

There are two Sheratons, you probably picked the one RIGHT on the harbor. Look at the one on W Fayette St. Its only 5-7 minutes from the stadium and not in a "bad area" lol. I would rate the hotel 3.5 to 4 stars.

EDIT: I spoke to my sister who booked the hotel for us. SHe had originally booked for $170 back in March, and when she checked again the day before we went, the rate had dropped to $98. So she just called Starwoods and they adjusted it. Just make sure you dont book it through hotels.com or any other 3rd party sites and you will have full flexibility with your booking. You mean east of Camden Yards. Golden West in Hampden is a great place for breakfast/brunch.

We were there a few weeks ago. Sat in section 216 (club), first row. Was a very good view and having in seat service and access to air conditioning is nice. If you're tall and need lots of legroom, I'd recommend the first row. Otherwise, back it up a few rows so you get some shade and don't have the rails in your line of sight.
