Also, Bogota is statistically safer than Washington DC, so knock that shit off.

It's relative though.

If you're a local it is, if you're a American then it's by far not.

My sister in law is from there and my brother has been a few times with her.

They all agreed with his blonde hair and blue eyes he'd be a huge target if it weren't for the fact that he was with all her family all the time.

She's from the Cali area though.

Going to a conflict zone in Colombia, however, is a totally different story and quite stupid to do unless you know what you are doing.

For Bogota:

The Salt Cathedral/Mine in Zipaquirá is worth a visit.
Museo Del Oro -- meh, its ok if you got the time.
Monserrate -- I highly recommend it. Hike it if you can instead of taking the tram.

Places to eat in Bogota:

Pesquera Jaramillo -- if you like seafood Try the mero.
Pizza -- Pizza 1969 Gourment or Archie's
Hamburgers: El Corral
Bogota Beer Company -- Kind of beloved patriot-laden, but they brew their own beer

Other types of food to try:

Chunchullo -- Intestines... you MUST try them. Delicious.
Chiguiro: If you can find it try it: http://raisingcolombiankids.bl.../2009/02/chiguiro.html
Traditional Colombian Food -- This should be cooked FOR you by an abuela, tia, o madre. Failing that, there are some decent restaurants that have traditional Colombian food. I have no specific recommendations...

In Medellin:

There's a great sushi place in Parque Lleras. Don't remember the name.
Try a Bandeja Paisa at any decent restaurante, but try to go outside of El Poblado or Parque Lleras

Things to do in Medellin:
Go see the Rio de Medellin (hehe, hard to miss)
Take Metrocable to get a good view.
Pueblo Paisa

In all places, definitely try Aguardiente (there is a different type for each department), and Ron Viejo de Caldas. Club Colombia is probably the best (non-micro brew) national beer.

Things I would NOT eat there:
- sushi
- pizza
- burgers

Are you going to suggest McDonalds, PizzaHut and Taco Bell next?

WTF is wrong with eating food that is actually a local specialty?
Even if those places are the best sushi/pizza or burger joints in the country, why would he want to eat something that he can have better somewhere else?

At least I am not an uncuth moron, who travels to a foreign country and then mainly eats foods not endemic to the region.

Umm, I don't eat non-Colombian food when I am there. My family lives there, I eat Colombian food prepared by my family. As I said, you are either stupid or blind. I mentioned a variety of Colombian food (Bandeja Paisa, Chunchullo, Chiguiro, Seafood from Pesquera Jaramillo, etc) and a few other places that someone might want to try. Colombian food is varied enough that it includes Hamburgers and Pizza -- of their own style, however. A hamburger from El Corral (the most popular food chain in Colombia), is markedly different from one in the United States. Pizza from Pizza 1969 Gourmet, too, is made in its own style (Colombian style, really). Nothing I mentioned is a non-Colombian restaurant. They all serve Colombian food. Perhaps if you had ever been there you'd know it.

I've traveled to or lived in almost every country in South America. I hardly need you to explain to me what is proper to eat or not to eat. It shows your ignorance that you think local food does not include food that is eaten in America as well. Go to Argentina, you will find Hamburgers and Pasta at every restaurant. Why? Because it is Argentine food. Colombians eat tons of hot dogs (perros calientes... super panchos in Argentina), but it is in their own way (crushed up potato chips, pineapple, and other vegetables).

Finally, the word is uncouth -- if you wish want to attempt to show off you should at LEAST spell the word correctly. I've lived in Colombia, I got married in Colombia, and I go there several times a year. I eat Colombian food year round in my home or with other Colombians. I also know that many people have better experiences when they are eased into different food than when they eat hormigas culonas and chunchullo on their first visit. Pardon me for not assuming everyone is EXACTLY like me, because I *do* like morcilla, mojella, and corazon. A lot of people do not -- especially individuals from the United States. I am sorry that I didn't make a better contribution. I saw you post hundreds of places to visit and eat at and I was startled by your expertise. Seriously, next time you wade into a thread like a puffy beautiful being have a fucking clue what you are talking about before you start running your mouth. Mal parido.

The best thing to do is NOT look touristy (assuming you look like a tourist) and use your head. Don't carry ANYTHING in your back pockets. Use money belts. If you have a back pack, keep it locked and strapped to you all of the time.

Same rules apply there as here. Don't be a prick, if something looks shady it usually is.

The taxi drivers love to rip off anyone that doesn't look south american to them. Just don't flag just any taxi down either. You'll get taken for a hike.

For the most part, everyone is warm and friendly. Bogota is a bit chilly compared to other parts of Colombia (much higher altitude). Bring a jacket.

**EDIT**

DivideBYZero has it nailed. Didn't see his post till I submitted mine.

Does your sister bring back any blow when she comes home to visit?

I did contribute by suggesting that he should ignore some of your [expletive] comments.
Enjoy eating your hamburgers and pizza wherever you go. why don't you add indian and chinese food to your list of "local specialties"?
I am pretty sure there is an "awesome" chinese restaurant that he SHOULD try, since it's not like he will get another chance to eat food like that somewhere else.

You do know that the more you insist on this, the more you like an idiot. I think the name calling to defend your suggestions really proves (your) point.

I can just tell how cultured and adventuresome you are.

How many languages are you fluent in? How many countries have you lived in? Wipe the sand out of your clit and stop being a fucking moron. I explained my rationale extremely well, and I listed more places and things to do than anyone in this thread. Take 10 seconds to think about how much of a douche you look like and then get back to me.

I bet there's not a person who has read this thread that will call me an idiot, but I promise you that everyone is seriously questioning how a fucktard like you hasn't been banned or punched in the face.

Oh. Did you get your panties in a bunch?

Enjoy eating your hamburgers and pizza wherever you go. why don't you add indian and chinese food to your list of "local specialties"?
I am pretty sure there is an "awesome" chinese restaurant that he SHOULD try, since it's not like he will get another chance to eat food like that somewhere else.

You do know that the more you insist on this, the more you like an idiot. I think the name calling to defend your suggestions really proves (your) point.

I can just tell how cultured and adventuresome you are.

I totally forgot that Colombia is known as the country of pizzas, hamburgers and sushi.
I mean that is what comes to mind when you mention Colombian cuisine.

You did forget a suggestion for a chinese restaurant. Eating chinese food in Latin America is THE BEST!

And for breakfast? Do they have Dunkin' Donuts?

Who gives a crap what you or other ignorant tards think what Colombia is known for? And what could you possibly know about its local cuisine?

And why does it matter what anyone eats when they visit another country? Eat whatever the hell you want. Who gives a damn if some idiot tourist thinks there is something wrong with eating "non-local" food. Not that it matters in this case because what Mill provided IS local food.

Hey - YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY THE EXPERT!
And so courteous.

Because of that I wouldn't want to intrude on your field of expertise, since I am ... how did you put it so eloquently?

Are you going to suggest McDonalds, PizzaHut and Taco Bell next?

WTF is wrong with eating food that is actually a local specialty?
Even if those places are the best sushi/pizza or burger joints in the country, why would he want to eat something that he can have better somewhere else?

Are you blind, stupid, or both?

As I said.
My hat is off to the Master Colombian.
You, Sir, really represent!
