i live here... so beach and hiking... i dunno... you can go pickup japanese tourists if you like... oh yea, and at the corner of this street at waikiki, you can pick up hookers at around 11pm ish or so...

I would agree with this Monday-Thursday night.

But, if you've never been to hawaii before, you've got to at least walk the strip once (preferably Friday or Saturday eve/night). Just to check it out. Some of the street performers are actually pretty entertaining, and there is some neat stuff to see (if you've never seen it before). And there are always lots of cheesy, cheap souveneirs you can buy for friends back home!

The best advice I can give you is this:

1. Don't leave any valuables in your car which will clearly be a rental
2. If you'll tend to piss folks off when you're drinking, don't go to the Moose McGillicuddy's on Kalakaua and Lewers because it is an awful long way back down the stairs

Skip Waikiki (or however it's spelled) because it's too crowded.

If you're staying on the windward side, the Leeward side is better imho because

I'm staying in Waikki and I can't change it because my parents are set on staying there since one of their friends stayed there and enjoyed it, but the friend that went is 60+ years old...

So many people see surfing on tv thinking "how hard can it be to stand up and ride 8' Pipe". Then they come to Hawaii, eat it on the reef, and complain about how beaches on Oahu suck because of the "rocky" bottom.

If you're new at it, rent a 10 footer at waikiki and paddle out. the waves there are pretty easy to learn on.

Rent a Jeep and drive the "Road to Hana" It's awesome. little winding roads that go to the opposite of whichever island it's on. Lots of fun.

Yeah I hate when there's a thread seeking advice on things to do on Oahu and people complain how Oahu sucks. Fvck you guys. You can't judge Oahu by what your saw in waikiki. How many of you guys been to the beaches on the west side, north shore, or Lani Kai? How many of you guys been on one of the hundreds of hiking trails. Oahu still has paradise. You just have to find it. You ain't gonna find it on Waikiki.

Its worth the cost of the interisland flight ($160-$200 RT)
but you may not be able to see them all or afford that. I can refer you to a great local travel agent who can get you some great flight/travel deals. She has assisted with a few others here who PM'd me for info.

I'm on the Big Island, and here we have the active volcano, Parker Ranch in Waiamea, great beaches along the Kona/Kohala coast, and a lot of outdoor activities if you like that stuff.
Oahu is our BIG city of the islands, and targets tourists in areas like Waikiki and other areas. Take the advice of the earlier reply by a local Oahu resident and get some "local" tips and places to go and see.

Have fun and PM me if you need tips on other islands or specifically Big Island.

So you're staying in that big hotel right on Waikiki beach? Haha, that's where we stayed (forgot which line of hotels it was, Marriot maybe? Hilton?) Waikiki beach was great compared to most of the beaches here in mainland USA, but is pretty crappy compared to Maui's beaches. Like I said earlier, you have to pay for it, there are a lot of people, and you can't see through the water (and there are tons of sharp rocks on the bottom, almost no sand underwater). If you can get your parents to fly to Maui, it's definately worth the money, all the beaches are free too. I don't know about the other islands though.

absolutely...Cafe Pesto is much nicer though

thats what i heard, but we look forward to cafe 100 more than any other place to eat! Our chests hurt after eating a lunch there, but man... so bad and so good!
