Flying to India in Dec. by myself. I'm only 16. Is it going to be hard w/customs? I was thinking its going to be a pain when I reach in India, at the customs and all. Other than that it shouldnt' be that hard. But what are some good things in Ahemdabhad? Thats where I will be going. I'm going to be meeting my dad there. He is leaving on the 29th of November. But I was wondering what are some good places to go to? My dad doesn't really know much, he hasn't been there in 15 years, and the last tiem I went...I was only 8 and I hated the heat...but can anyone give me some places to go that are around Ahemdabhad?

look up - he already did

Have fun on the trip! I'd love to be able to travel to other countries. I've been to Canada, which doesn't count, and my old girlfriend went to Spain last spring. All I got to see were a bunch of pictures; that's as close as I've gotten.

getting in india is probably easy. getting back in the US is probably more of a pain.

I find coming back to Canada way more of a pain in the ass than arriving in Germany or Austria.

One time I went from Srbija - Croatia - Slovenija - italija and I dont think they opened our passports once..

the guy is asking for help for going to India and to see places there.

i dont think this is the right place to criticize offshoring or outsourcing. leave that to another thread

I've been to Ahmedabad a lot of times in my life. My suggestion is to get a Lonely Planet book for that region. For food, check out Tomatoes, Mama's Kitchen, and I think Masala Mahal. I believe they are all three owned by the same owner, but be sure to check them out in the Lonely Planet book (it lists all of them). It was some pretty damn amazing food I must say. You'll have an amazing time.

Just one word of warning, don't eat pizza from any street vendors I was nearly on my death bed for 3 days.

a-bad being a dry city, it isn't too much fun in that respect. although around the colleges ppl always smuggle stuff in.

check out a restaraunt called Agashe... its amazing...you don't want to leave (and its all you can eat, so you don't have to )

my grandfather lives there...its a pretty boring place overall. delhi/bombay are more fun.

for that matter, don't eat any food item you can buy for less than $2, don't drink any water but bottled mineral water. tell your doctor you're going to india... the doc will give you a few vaccinations and some meds for malaria and stuff. ask for vaccinations for water-borne diseases like cholera and typhoid. start taking extra vitamins two weeks before the trip and continue taking them throughout the trip, coz you need your immune system to really work. carry a supply of anti-histamine meds that will allow you to have at least 4 pills a day during the duration of your trip (worst-case scenario, but i'm not kidding, you will need some if not all of that medication). in case you run out of anti-histamine meds during your trip, go to a drug store and buy some cetrizine. it'll be thrice as expensive as the other allery pills, but it has no side effects and most importantly, won't make you drowsy. if you wear lenses, carry several bottles of rewetting drops among other things, you'll need them.

edit for minor addition and adding bold

No joke, you can get some crazy stuff down there.

A friend of mine (a girl) got really sick and was delerious when she went to India over the summer. She started going up to random dudes asking them if they would take her home and "be her daddy." :Q

Luckily she was taken to the hospital before anything happened, but she doesn't remember anything.

i lost a friend in india this summer. she was traveling by train to some small city, ate something and reached her destination with severe food poisoning. she was hospitalized, she recovered and the day they were gonna discharge her, they gave her the wrong meds and she passed away. bottom line, better paranoid and safe than sorry.

also, carry a note on you (in all local languages) with proper id, phone numbers and a message which promises a BIG reward if you're taken to the best hospital in town. in case you have an accident and they don't think straight, they will haul your ass to some public hospital and your ass is pwned for good.
