Espeically since work should be paying for the meals anyway. Live it up!

Yes they are. I don't know what my daily budget limit is though.

Better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

On another note I really enjoy the gaming at Alladin and Bellagio. Great atmosphere and generally not too crowded.

If you're looking to try In-N-Out for lunch or something, from the Sahara Hotel head west on Sahara about 1-2 miles and you're there.

Go to Osheas and play $5 blackjack. All the dealers were friendly to this newbie and if you tip well they'll give plenty of sound advice. The music there was good and the cocktail waitresses came around enough to keep me hydrated.

IMHO it was much more relaxed than playing at the Mirage and they had smaller minimums.

Also Carnegie Deli at the Mirage had huge and tasty deli sandwhiches. The roast beef was perfect!!! Full meal is about $16-20.

Uhh... You better ask first. Where I work, they now make you pay the difference out of pocket if you go over the daily limit.

BS. Normally if you have a receipt you are fine. It's the per diem without receipt that counts.

<---150 bucks per day without receipt here. If not then deduct it.

-edit-
What I mean is there should be nothing preventing you from getting something to eat while traveling and have your employer reimburse you. You can't learn and make the most of the trip without networking with other professionals over a nice dinner and exchanging ideas. EXPENSE IT!

Usually we the US office employees don't have limits. I spent 210 Euros for dinner once and got all of it back.

I highly recommend the Orleans... great off-strip casino... low limit tables... friendly dealers.

Much better than the tourist trap rape your wallet big name casinos.

I would check this place out. I am pretty sure they have shuttles that run there, as its about 40 miles out of Las Vegas.

i thought it was 60miles? plus at $200/hr i passed on it.

It might be 60 miles. I don't remember exactly how far the ride was. However, that $200 bucks is well worth the return ?

The old adage you get what you pay for definitely comes into play here.

In-N-Out had good burgers. Last time I had one was back in 94 when I used to live in California. Don't have then in NY.

Just got back from vegas. New years was fun, but the strip is way overpriced. I got a good laugh out of people trying to buy those regular sized plastic pitchers of beer for $20 new years eve. Even at those prices, it still took people forever to get it.

What I did find odd was the understaffed bars. Pretty much any bar we went to new years eve (prior to midnight) was busy (as expected) and understaffed! How can you only have 2 bartenders on new years eve? I found this odd. The strip does have a lot of cool stuff to see though, but be prepared to walk a lot.

I had more fun Friday night downtown. There was mechanical bull riding at Binions, cheaper beer, and the light show on Fremont street is really cool (and free). I'd definitely recommend it.

We stayed at the MGM Grand which is on the south end of the strip. Didn't make it to the north end where the Sahara is. If you make it to the south end, the New York New York casino has a pretty cool irish bar (Nine Fine Irishman) which has live irish music, and it also has a dueling piano bar.

*edit to fix the day*

i stopped in there saturday afternoon. bar was packed so i had to settle for a little table. the food was nothing to write home about but their tap selection was decent and as long as they could serve up a black & tan i was happy. i think pyonir was also there later that same saturday night.

edit: but i did dig the band playing british invasion band songs. especially the little beatles-medley they did which was fitting seeing as my friends and i watched 'love' the night before.

Staying at the Sarah will be good. You are close to the Hilton and are a stop for the shuttles (group 12 I think). I usually go to CES about every other year, this being an off year.

Sarah has some of the cheapest gambling on the strip but keep in mind that this is the busiest week for Vegas so everything will be more expensive and more crowded. Its easy to get burned out and tired, if you have never been to Vegas this my sound stupid but those that have will agree, things are farther apart than they seem. Sometimes it looks like a casino is right next door but its a heck of a long walk because nothing in Vegas is a straight shot. After walking the show floor all day then wandering around at night its not long before your feet start to hate you. Bring comfortable shoes.

The pizza in the main lobby for CES is pretty good (compared to other food options at CES) and the line usually goes pretty fast.

For entertainment I would try to do things off of the beaten path as the strip will be packed. Give downtown a try. I usually have fun down there and things are usually cheaper.

Lastly, I don't know how much experience you have traveling, but I have traveled alot and mccarran airport is the worst. On CES weekend expect no less than a 1.5 hour wait for a cab after you get your bags. It sucks. Also the cabbie should take the highway to the Sarah, if he drives down the strip he is screwing you. The cab ride should be about $20 and cabs in vegas are cash only.

Then you're missing out. Best burgers ever! Make sure to order them animal style.
