Going to quit smoking after 10 years....(Day 6)

Congrats on day 3. Just remember to never give up hope. I also smoked for 10 years, and the first 3 weeks of quitting were hell!!! I didn't use the patch myself, I used Zyban. Can't say which is better, I think it depends on the person.
Just remember the reasons why you want to quit, and as long as you keep them in focus, you will make it. The longer you're without, the better off you are. Eventually, you'll forget why you even wanted to smoke (although I will not lie to you, you'll want one anyway)
Keep strong, have faith, you can and will do it. If I can quit, anybody can.

day 6...went off the patch 2 days ago, have experienced virtually no cravings since then. My lungs feel better, my throat doesnt hurt, and I'm not hacking stuff up in the morning. Craving's were initially bad but even after going off the patch I havent had too much trouble...I've found its mostly mental. Just hard not to want to do something you've been accustomed to doing for so long.

for anyone else who tries to quit...and finds out they have an oral fixation try eating tic tacs, lots of gum, and beef jerkey.

About 10 years ago my dad quit smoking cold turkey. He had been smoking for a couple years before that. It's only now, after seeing companies make billions off of patches ,can I imagine how hard that could have been for him.

congrats man... more power to ya... btw, have you picked u any other tendancies yet? hope not.. seen people quit, and suddenly they are overweight

Good job, keep it up. Quitting reverses some of the damage done by smoking, but not all. You should feel much better before too long.

u gotta turn that into somethin healthier... just not excessive... i also know someone who took up running as an out.. and got sick from over-running
