My willpower is terrible, but I really need to prove to myself that I can do it. I enjoy them as well...and this was really a spur of the moment thing but im determined to do this. I will not start again in the near future. I can't say I wont start 6-12 months from now but dammit, I'm gonna do my best.

BTW, Im smoking my last cigarette now.

Lucky here's a tip for ya from a fellow quitter (permanent, #X*E!!!): don't flush your cigarettes down the tube! A few hours later you will see yourself running out to get another 'last' pack.

LOL BTW, how come your only 23 and been smoking for 10 years? Are cigs allowed at that age? Ah, never mind.
I'm also that age and I been smoking a long time, but not regularly. Now I smoke 1mg lights daily and think every day that tomorrow I'll quit. I know these cigs suck (it's Kent, but 1mg) but all I need is just too feel the smoke, I don't care about it's density. I can live on 6-8 a day and will quit *real soon*, when I'm ready.

Ah crap, another promise soon to be broken...

I probably starting smoking around 12 or so. Did the usual kid thing of picking butts up off the ground (yuck!) until I became an accomplished shoplifter at the grocery store. I was forced to quit b/c of reform school from 15-17, but stupid me the first thing I did when I got out was buy a new pack.

I smoked a little under 2 packs of camel lights day, so actually I'll be saving $175/month or so.

Russ

Bwahahah! Your welcome! How much do you smoke a day?

Do it! it will be the best thing that you will ever do for yourself, I quit 10 years ago last April 22, after 16 years of smoking. Take it one day at a time, get past the first week and its pretty much downhill from there. Good Luck and don't give in.

Go to bed. Seriously, sleep as much as possible for the next week. When you're sleeping you're not craving cigs. I've been smoke free for about 15 weeks now. Go about 10-14 days and you're home free. The key to my success? Plastic straws ($.50/100) and sleep. I chewed a few hundred straws the first couple of weeks and slept as often as I could...even going to bed when I wasn't tired. So you sleep away the days for a week? If it helps you to quit so be it, right? The hardest times I had? When I was on AnandTech...just seemed natural to light up whenever I posted.

Sleep
Straws
Less AT time

Do those for a week or two and you'll increase your chances of success. Good luck, Lucky.

Best of luck to you. Both of my parents quit when they saw my mother's parents both die extreemly slowly from lung cancer. It's an ugly, ugly thing to witness, and both of my 'rents wanted to save themselves and also myself and my sis when we were younger. My sis is 21 now, has smoked since she was 14, and already has throat problems.

It won't be easy, but I think the rewards speak for themselves. Good luck!

You think putting 2 or 3 patches on would be a good idea? Ugh, this is terrible.

I know what you're going through. Back in university I quit for six months. The first 5-7 days are the hardest IMHO... after that you're in the clear as long as you don't slip up.

I think breaking old habits like having a smoke after eating, while drinking, etc, are more difficult than the physical addiction itself. I found that the key is to change up your routine and keep busy because then you won't fall back into the smoking "groove".

Again, good luck.
