I was looking in the Union Square East and Finanical District - Embarcadero area.

Union Square West is cheaper on Hotwire and Priceline? Should it be avoided?

I've done a little more research and certain areas in that zone may be in a sketchier part of the city.

I'm sticking to USE/Financial area.

Have you tried any of these?

My chowhound googlefu says:

Tadich Grill
Sotto Mare for cioppino.
Italian restaurants in San Francisco that specialize in seafood include Brindisi, La Ciccia, Pesce, Rose Pistola and Sotto Mare.
For very plain, fresh local crab, go to Swan's Oyster Depot on Polk Street and California.
Tomales Bay Oyster Co
Fish (350 Harbor Dr, Sausalito, CA 94965)

Tadich Grill is a great throwback place, Bourdain visited it on one of his many trips to SF. He also loves House of Prime Rib. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBQvcNTxgu8

Tomales Bay is great.

I have friends that absolutely SWEAR by Fish. BRING CASH.

One of the best Thai places is in that area.

Go down to Monterey also for great sights. Big Sur is awesome as heck (https://www.google.com/search?q=cal...GO2QWFpoGwBw&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=976)

Go to Napa, Point Reyes etc.

For pointers on places to go in SF itself, try using the search bar.

We are staying in Santa Rosa the 31 and 1. We will be visiting Lagunitas, Bear Republic, and Russian River breweries. November 2 and 3, we plan on staying in Sonoma as the wife doesn't want to stay in Napa. We hope to do some some wine tours, etc.

November 4 and 5 we will be in the city, hopefully in the Financial district. It cost half as much to get a 6 day rental versus a 4 day rental. My plan is to ditch the rental in a parking garagage (way cheaper than hotel) for those two days. It appears that I could be charged extra if I return the car early. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one.

Definitely walk across the bridge. Loud with all the traffic, but the view is a thing to see. Walk around North Beach at dusk after having dinner at one of the many excellent Italian eateries there. Roam around the Nob Hill hotels. Grace Cathedral is beautiful.

We went to Lands End park via the BART. It has some hiking and great views of the Golden Gate.

We took a day tour to Yosemite which is one of the most amazing places I've ever been, we were picked up at like 7am and didn't return till like 9pm, really fun day.

Muir woods was awesome as well and is like a 1/2 day trip, wasn't very busy when we went. Our tour stopped at the overlook at the other side of the GGB which was a great photo op. It also stopped in Sausalito for a few minutes.

Do not rent a car, we thought about it but after being there I would NEVER want to drive.

We stayed at the Hilton on O'Farrell using Priceline but didn't save a ton in May. The hotel was pretty good but not amazing, would stay there again though.

Thats my quick and dirty on our brief 3 day/ 4 night trip there in May. It was a great trip, have fun.

Do you remember the name of the tour company, their URL or phone number?

Thanks.
