Congrats!

I used to be a huge fan, but I've really lost my gusto lately. I really can't get behind Billy's direction lately - he's gone artistically unchecked, which means that his flare for the dramatic has overtaken his ability to "Sonically Kick Ass". Also, I miss Iha, although I am thankful that at least he's working with APC.

With that being said, have a friggin awesome time dude! Hopefully it will be great

Going on Thursday to the show in Columbus.

A bit more excited about seeing Explosions in the Sky than I am Smashing Pumpkins, but it should be a rocking show all around.

See I've never heard of Explosions in the Sky. Are they any good?

Im going to see them because they have been my favorite band for around 15 years now. I've just never had the opportunity to go see them live. I'm leaving in about an hour to go home and get ready. Pittsburgh is about 2-3 hours from my house and I want to get there early so I can get up close.

I hope my ears bleed, it will totally be worth it.

If you dont like the way their style went, check out their new album, feels like the mid 90's again

I'll definitely have to check out the new album if it sounds anything like Siamese Dream or Gish...

I saw them in the mid-90s... they were alright. Nirvana was way better though. I only say that because I saw them a couple of months apart.

Gish was a decent album, and siamese dream was a great one, but their shining moment was with Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

If you liked Siamese Dream definately give their new one a try, its really good

I will, for sure. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was hit and miss for me... most of the tunes that I like on it never got any airtime on local alternative rock stations. Here Is No Why is awesome and a couple others I can't recall.

My favourite all-time SP tune might still be Rhinoceros off of Gish.

I agree, and the same stands true with Zeitgeist, the best tunes arent on the radio. If you liked tales of a scorched earth or where boys fear to tread you will love 7 shades of black

I've always been a fan of Pisces Iscariot as their most revealing album. Mellon Collie, Siamese and Adore also rank highly for me.

My biggest problem was when they dropped Butch Vig and went to Flood full time as a producer. Butch kept it sonic...kept it raw. Unchecked, Billy puts out albums like Machina, his solo and Zwan. He doesn't exactly have a great record, lol.

I've loved the Pumpkins, and they remain my fav band, since '96....but I'm just so unimpressed with B.C. as of late that I haven't even bought their new album. The Pumpkins with Iha, to me, is just another Zwan.

I would say Zeitgeist is much more raw and "hard" than their last few albums. I'm not saying its the same as their old stuff, but back are the several minute long guitar solos and Jimmy's pounding drums.

Also I've listened to a few of their recent shows and I think that the new stuff sounds even better live than recorded. That was not really the case for a lot of their older stuff in the past.

That and they are playing some really good set lists, e.g.:

(This was from one show recently)

01. intro
02. United States
03. Rocket
04. That's the Way (My Love Is)
05. Neverlost
06. Drown
07. Bring the Light
08. Stand Inside Your Love
09. Tonight, Tonight
10. Tarantula
11. Zero
12. Glass and the Ghost Children

Disc II - 74:11

01. Golden Gopher banter > 1979
02. Perfect
03. To Sheila
04. Bullet with Butterfly Wings
05. Hummer
06. Home
07. Superchrist
08. Doomsday Clock
09. Heavy Metal Machine
10. encore 1
11. Cherub Rock
12. encore 2
13. With Every Light
14. encore 3
15. Today

Explosions is one of my recent favorite bands. They are all instrumental, but they put on a really really good show. I'm somewhat surprised at the matchup with them and SP, but there should be enough cross over of taste.

I'll be curious to see what your reaction is to them after the show. If you like what you hear, I'll give you a recommendation for their best album (s).

I'll also be interested to see what the setlist looks like.

I'm having a hard time waiting for this show. I still have another month before they get to the Ryman in Nashville!

Welcome to 1994.

Wow, they didn't even hit huge until 1995 with the Mellon Collie release. Thanks for trolling though.

Trolling my ass, just because you let the masses control your artistic tastes dont take it out on me. Gish came out in 1991, so did lull (IIRC, im not going to go digging through my CDs). I was being generous with my 1994 date because this is one year after siamese dream came out. The fact that you reference Mellon Collie makes you even more "out of touch" than i thought. Enjoy your *concert* at your mass venue...

Musical taste is a matter of opinion. Your post, shared no opinion and could only cause frustration towards the members of this thread. You sir, are trolling.

I bought their new album, it's ok, more like "Adore" than my preferred "Mellon Collie" and "whatever album Today is on".

Mass venue my ass, this was a pretty small show at best. It was at the AJ Palumbo center in Pitt

One of the funny things about it was Billy starts playing perfect and then gets about 6 bars into it and stops and bends over laughing. He had aparantly forgot the words and had a book put up on his monitor to read the words from.

They also closed with"I love rock n roll"
