Hello there!!

So just got back from my trip to the Far East and had a blast.. Now, gonna be visiting my cousin in London for a week and then was hoping to visit Switzerland since I've heard so much about it. I'm gonna try and convince my cousin to join me but if thats not possible, was thinking of going there alone! I'm gonna be there for approx 5 days in the last week of June ( June 23rd - June 29th ).

1) Do you guys have any recommendations on what to do and visit when I go there? If I land up going alone, what do guys recommend I do?

2) I found various tours that are offered and was wondering if these tours attract more families/couples than solo travelers? It'd be nice if there were more solo travelers to hang out with during these tours..

3) Is Switzerland a good place to visit alone or would it get boring? I do appreciate nature and all but I'd imagine after some time, it might get a little boring? dunno..

Wouldn't mind moderate trekking but not fit enough to go on an all-out hiking expedition! I have no budgetary constraints as such although the cheaper the better..

Any input is much appreciated. Thanks

dont go to big tours. find some local tours, walking or biking if possible, many more chances of young solo travelers there
if you want more city sights go to germany instead , more things to do , n you can meet travelers at numerous hostels

Do I just go to a local travel agent and try to book those tours?

My Schengen visa did not go through and will find out why tomorrow morning. Hence, can't visit any of the Schengen countries .. I figured Switzerland would work out good since they are pretty speedy with their visa process..

If you're going alone, I'd recommend hooking up with some Swiss hottie and getting your freak on.

I miss Balmers Can't believe it was 6 years ago now...

I've had a great time in Interlaken (in 2002), Lucerne and Zermatt (in 2007), but Zermatt is pretty far from most other places.

And as GT said, Switzerland is expensive. The food was more expensive than it was in London and the trains were very expensive as well.

This is the last week of the Euro soccer championship and several cities will have public viewing areas and many fans. The possibilities to get around in the four Swiss host cities with a car are limited, public transport should be fine though.

Personally I've never travelled alone much, but don't think that Switzerland is special in this regard. The choice is yours if you go hiking alone for days or mix with the big crowds in the host cities.

Ticino has some beautiful landscapes and old parts of town and castles (often North Americans also take a look at them), but there is so much tourism information online about the whole country that you could easily find something that matches your interest.

I've recommended it in the past, but if you want some specific information about vacation activities or maybe even meet some relaxed English speaking expats during your lone journey through the country, take a look at www.englishforum.ch .
