Going Wireless.......what do I need???

Weird question to many7 of you probably.......maybe it's the pain meds.! LOL! I've got about 10 weeks to recoup here at home..............had ACL surgery (it was very bad and close to knee replacement) and I'm already bored.............so.........I decided to go wireless!

I've been building my own systems since the 90's but have never dabbled in the wireless arena.............I have 5 systems in my home and all are hard wired now through a switch at my computer in my office with cat5E. As stated, I'm bored and have the time and money so I would like to switch everything over to wireless. I am currently on dialup once again waiting for the cable guys to get into my area (estimated arrival of middle of October) so I'll need everything to be dialup and cable/DSL ready.

Basicly, what I'd like to know from you gurus is..................what exactly will I need piece by piece to get the best, most reliable, fastest performance available to network my five systems wirelessly? Thanks in advance.................

I would not put all them on a wireless network if they are all working in a wired setup right now. Wireless is good for laptops and places where it's impossible or difficult to run cat 5. I have to fix computers constantly in an entirely wireless dorm and it's not fun.

If you did want to get a wireless router to play with, get the linksys that you can flash the firmware on.

I know..........sounds silly doesn't it.............................but.................I've been tossing this idea around for sometime now and I really just want to see how it works! LOL! Mybe you're right though, at least to a degree.................perhaps i'll simply connect a couple systems wirelessly for now and see how it goes.

I just would like to know from pros like you and others here on A/T exactly what the best hardware to do this with is and exactly what you would buy if you were doing this. So.....let's just stick with a couple of systems for now then.........what will I need to do this right? Money not being an object? I want the best available. Both systems are running XP Pro and both are high end systems with 1GB+ ram..............

You need a Wireless Cable/DSL Router, and a client Wireless Card for every PC that goes Wireless.
