HDTV is overinflating the sense of satisfaction people feel after watching TV.

I just turned it on, and they're running a special about Mega-Tsunamis....a theoretical one.

well the quality of hd has increased show quality. it forced more spending on sets/locations, makeup, general increase in production value, can't get away with junk anymore. wide screen is more cinematic so they can have better cinematography etc. everything is bumped up a notch so maybe they take its production more seriously

IHMO, for the last couple years (bascially since LOTR:ROTK), TV series > movies.

I would agree that there's an abundance of awesome shows going on these days, whereas there's literally nothing worth watching from Hollywood...

The '60's would be my first choice for "Golden Era". So many great shows from that time.

probably also awesomeness cuz of dvd. before dvd got cheap there was no wide spread buying of tv, it just sucked..imagine the tapes u'd need no special features or commentary. best you could hope for were sporadic reruns you couldn't plan for, so shows didn't have much life after first run. atleast shows that weren't so episodic. i just remember that if i didn't set the vcr and missed an eps i'd be totally screwed back then, it sucked hard. and if u found out u liked a show after it had started u couldn't go back and catch up easily. now plenty of people watch full seasons at a time on dvd, so there is a second audience to play for, justifies more investment in the show and longer story arcs. good stuff, there were no good old days, the good old days sucked hard.
