I have been seeing the commercials for awhile and I was in St. Louis this week and they had one, I decided to try it. It was pretty good for a buffet, better than Ryan's or Barnhill's I think

LOL whenever we head up north out of America's Wang we will go to Ryan's, which I consider a superior trough style buffet to Golden Corral. We consider GC whenever we are feeling entirely too fat and wish to be treated as cattle. The steaks at GC are very fatty sirloin that the guy cooking doesn't really know how to handle. They cut the steak not in a way that makes a good steak, but to more easily portion it. They'll take a massive whole sirloin and just cut it into 6-10 strips lengthwise which means at least 2 of those will be 40%+ fat. Ryan's on the other hand where you can actually pay for a steak (at least it was back in the 90's when we regularly went) will give you good cuts.

Also the guy at GC often just ignores your request for a specific temp. He always asks (how you like it cooked) and unless you say well done, he offers up whatever steak is currently cooking (by holding it up and saying "this ok?", typically rare - medium rare as the cattle have lined up to be fed and he doesn't want a line. Most (dare I say 90%+) just take whatever is offered even if they said "medium well". Though if you say - cook it more he will set it aside on the fire and crank it and you wait on the side while the other livestock are fed.

The "asian" section is piss poor but the mexican part is decent. Good pizza and always good pot roast too. The shrimp aren't too dodgy as long as its breaded/deep fried.

Fuckin place is epic. For the price I don't see how you could ever beat the deal. I haven't tried every single food they have there, as they have a shit load, but so far almost everything has been great. I love the place; closest one is in Green Bay which is two hours away though.

One plate loaded up
Desert

I will say though, I didnt care for their desert bar, but the banana pudding was awesome

Yes, I have always liked the Golden Corral buffets. They have a great selection, breads, salads, fish, meats, and much more. The only problem I found is that this place tends to appeal to parents with kids. The kids go around sticking their fingers in the various foods or don't use a clean plate or use their own silverware to move food from the buffet to their plate. Obviously parents can't get up with a kid each time they want something. I once saw a kid putting her finger into the ice cream faucet, not knowing how to turn it on. I mentioned this to the clerk there and he said he would mention it to the manager. I sat there for 30 minutes watching person after person using the ice cream machine, and never did they do anything about it. Heck, even just a quick swish with a towel would have been enough. Actually I prefer not to eat in buffets where kids are around. Parents have lost control of their children and most children don't wash their hands between nose picking.

When I was 18, in college, me and my friends drove to vegas to eat at the rio buffet. We stayed and ate (with bathroom breaks of course) for about 6 hours. Then we drove back home

When I was like 15, my friend and I would go to Ryan's in the early afternoon - pay, eat, play gameboy/gamegear, wait until we were hungry again, and eat again.

yeah i enjoy golden corral. for $10 a adult its grea.t the food is good (not amazing but good) and they serve steak. The steak is usually hit or miss. I never have a issue getting it cooked how i like (med rare). sure it may be fatty but cut that off and eat what you have you can go get more.

where GC shines though is for breakfast. it is amazing.

I can't believe you people actually enjoy Golden Corral. I walk in there and want to vomit at the sight of obese adults and children stuffing their faces with peanut butter cake, rolls, and macaroni and cheese.

lulz. There's usually a fatty family or two in there but it's not like every customer is a sweating hulk stuffing their faces mercilessly, LOL.

My wife worked at one, and the stories I heard made me not want to go there. It closed down shortly after.

They regularly ran out of hot water in the restaurant and would wash the plates without it. I don't know if that matters since there are chemicals to help sanitize but any restaurant that regularly runs out of a resource such as hot water raises a red flag to me. It was like this for 2 years.

That being said, I've only heard these stories about this because my wife worked there, and all restaurants have something sketchy about them. It probably explains why this one went out of business.

We used to go there occassionaly, but it's been a couple years. Last time we went we had just gotten our empty trays and were looking around for a table, and promptly saw some 7 or 8 year old boy vomit all over the floor. Good times...........good times.

It's ok....a lot of the food 'tastes the same' tho to me.....*shrugs*. I would go to Ryans if there was one around here.

Whenever I see that 'come try our chocolate fountain' commercial, I picture some little kid with a handfull of boogers just sticking his whole hand in there and licking it.......repeating as necessary...........D:

I dont think I'll be going back anytime soon

Edit: I can't help but lol at the phrase 'sweating hulk stuffing their faces mercilessly'

The last time I went to Golden Corral, which is in Beaumont Texas, it was absolutely NASTY!!

The food tasted so bad, I asked the waitress to get the manager.

I doubt I will ever go back.

running out of hot water don't bother me. long as they are useing the chemicals they are supposed to. IF they are washing plates and such by hand do you really think they are getting the water hot enough to kill something anyway?

At the GC we go to i have only seen a kid do something gross once. he stuck his hand in teh chocolate fountain licked his hand and did it again. i complained to management. They didn't do anything (was there 20 min) i complained to management again and told them i will be calling the health department.

I used to go about once a month but lost my enthusiasm for the place due to the atmosphere. It's noisy and there's an attitude of gluttony. The family groups of more than four are the most outrageous. The final straw was observing diners eating snow crab legs and piling up huge mounds of discards like trophies of achievement.

Only been to one, about 3 or 4 years ago, and it was a nasty, hellish experience.

If you hate it so much, why are you even walking in there? You are obviously one of those fat obese kids stuffing their faces huh?

Women 4 ft wide with plates that are piled over a foot high jockeying for position at the trough, 200lb 8 year olds shoving handfuls of chocolate cake down their throats, the faint sound of circus music playing softly in the background... Hellish indeed...

I'm not a fan of buffets of any kind. The food's usually mediocre at best, and the value is in eating a lot of it. I can't really eat a lot at one sitting, so I end up paying more for food I'm not that crazy about.
