I'm going to demo one this weekend. I still have one of the old r7 400cc drivers.

Would the FT-I be better than the Titelist 905 R?

if you've hit/own the FT-I, is it worth the $500?

Haven't hit the Callaway but that's a huge price difference in the 905R ($200) and the FT-i ($500).

I would be uncomfortable addressing the ball with that thing.
My driver clubhead is only 391cc's. I had a 455cc head and just didn't like the look of it.

Is not the tool is the swing!

But these square drivers are really loud compare to regular shape. I tried the Nike Sasquash, and thing sounded like a cannon.

Hah, I know it's the swing not the tool. I just feel like I need something new.

At this point the square drivers are pure BS. While the idea of moving weight to the corners to raise MOI has some merit they have not gotten the execution right yet. They're selling all sizzle and no steak. The odd shaped driver like the Sumo². FT-i and Hibore might someday offer some sort of benefit over conventional shapes, but right now they don't. They're not longer, they're not straighter, they're not more forgiving, they're not better in any measurable way. There's nothing so wrong with the 400cc R7 that a newer driver would be a big improvement. If you want to spend some money on getting better there are two things to do:

1) Lessons
2) Get on a launch monitor and get fit. You would have FAR more success and FAR better results by optimizing your launch conditions than you would by just blindly buying a new geometry driver.

You can't learn jack by heading out to a shop and whacking a few range balls into a net that's 10 feet away. You have to get fit by a professional with a monitor, buying a club just because you saw an ad about it is just as likely to make you worse instead of better.

You've got a nice stick, SMT makes good stuff and the Spectrum is one of their best. One of my clubs is an SMT Encore, it's the Spectrums big brother. You should learn to get used to 455cc heads though. Your eye can adapt very quickly and bigger is better.

These SMT clubs? I've never heard of them before, is it a good option? I'm 15 years old, I use a stiff shaft and am hitting the ball straight, but can't seem to get solid contact, which is another reason why i wanted to switch drivers.

Failure to make solid contact is NOT a reason to get a new club. If you can't hit the middle of the face on one you're not going to hit the middle of the face on any. Returning the club to square is the same no matter what name is on the head. You need lessons and you need to stop overswinging. Power comes from width, tempo, timing and MAKING SOLID CONTACT. All you get from trying to kill it is bad results.

But yes, SMT clubs are excellent. So are Geek, Alpha, Ashton, Wishon and a whole host of others. But that isn't your problem and that isn't where you should be spending your money. I've seen a million guys who couldn't hit the driver solidly. About 5% were just rotten golfers who could not hit anything solidly, 1% were using drivers that truly didn't fit them and the other 94% were just swinging too damn hard. A grand total of ZERO were having trouble because they were playing the wrong brand or model.
