Yesterday I fried my XP2000+ palomino!

I am looking for a few suggestions though. Here is the rest of my setup.

Directron 201B Case
(All the fans have been replaced w/variable speed units.)
Antec True430 power supply
2-Corsair 256 mb pc2700 (CAS-2) dimms
(These I may replace since my daughter is getting a computer upgrade for her birthday in Sept.)
Asus GeForce 2-GTS 32 MB Video
(Fan is giving out on this old card and for that reason I am considering a board with onboard graphics for now)
WD 80 GB "Special Edition" HD

Other accessories are:
Toshiba DVD, Plextor burner, USB:mouse, scanner, printer, camera.

Here is what I am looking @ so far:
AMD Barton 2500+ Retail ($90)
ABIT NF7-M, nForce2 mobo w/onboard audio, vga, and LAN ($115)

Still need to look at RAM and a new heatsink. Heat is definately a concern. I hate running all those fans full tilt!
(I think I ruined my pally reinstalling my Thermalright AX-7. That HS takes quite a bit of downforce to install)

I will probably over clock a bit (as usual)
Also I am not really up to date on all the improvements...any affordable P4 solutions?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions....

One more thing....
The only thing, so far about that Abit board that I am kinda hesitant about is the fact that it only has 2 IDE connectors.
I have been running separate IDE channels on all devices for quite some time and am not really sure what effect master/slave setups would have on say CD copies and such.....

I just built a system on this platform half a week ago (typing on it now). Only diff is I used the Epox EP-8RDA+ Mobo (83 from newegg). I you don't need the onboard VGA take a look at the Epox.

Other then that all my components are almost exactly the same as yours (and oh yeah, I like it).

Good luck,

The reason I am looking at the onboard vga is that I really don't have the cash right now to build it like I would like. I figured the onboard would probably be better than my aging GeForce-2, then I can disable it when the DX-9 cards drop in price to a reasonable level.

Good call. I'm just even more strapped for cash, or I would have jumped for the onboard video. I'll personally be fine with a GF2 until x-mas (merry christmas to me!).
