12-14-15: Update

So I went up Saturday and took a look at and purchased the car. The interior was all fine, exterior was a bit more beat up than I hoped but nothing nutty. All dealer serviced, 1-owner and the guy was nice and pleasant to deal with. Wound up getting it for $11.5k, popped it on my insurance and drove it home.

According to the carputer I averaged about 36 mpg on the way home. Even if that is lower IRL I average ~26 in my WRX according to the carputer, so I'll take 10mpg one way or another. The fuel gauge barely moved for 90 miles.

The car is so hilariously easy to shift in comparison to the WRX. The clutch is like air and I could shift with baby fingers.

I made sure to do a couple donuts in the Viper yesterday to even myself out!

Time to clean up / sell the WRX now

OP:

So I've been looking to offload my '10 WRX for a Legacy lately. Gas bills stink and all I do is highway mileage. Plus I have the Viper now for fun times.

Found an '11 Legacy Premium(heated seats required) with 55k on it w/ 6 speed manual. Price is about book, $12.5k. The WRX is a hoot but I have close to 150k on it since I bought it new. I'd be sad to see it go whenever I go to sell it to some dumb kid.

I guess I'm getting old or something..

If you want a car for highway cruising you should really get the CVT. I'm amazed at the highway MPG of our Forester.

I'd buy it. I DD a 99 Forester and it's been pretty great. I'd jump on a manual Leggy for that price pretty quickly. We also have a 2011 Impreza we bought new that has 80k miles now and it's awesome.

I had my 09 STI from new and sold it this past May. It wasn't easy, that's for sure.

the guy has a viper and is getting rid of a STI. I think he likes driving and doesn't want a soul crushing CVT.

And is buying a Legacy for mpgs. So if you're buying a car for mpgs you might as well get the cvt. I love MTs but I freely admit the cvt makes for a relaxed commuter with great mpg to boot.

I'd really prefer not to get a CVT. I've never liked any car I've been in that has one.

Look for head gaskets leaking oil

I'll get underneath the car when I check it out. Sheesh hasn't this problem gone away though yet?

Indeed. I get decent enough mileage already with my WRX. I'm just tired of buying premium fuel constantly. My insurance cost will get cut in half(or more) as well looking at an initial quote.

I have been in touch with the guy and I should be going to check it out this saturday.

I just pulled apart a 2010 or 2011 Legacy today. Leaked out all the oil through the head gasket, customer was a Subaru owner so of course they never checked the oil level, trashed something in there. Haven't split the case yet but they have one piston flopping around on the rod and are damn lucky the cylinder wall is okay. All because the head/ head gasket went bad and leaked.

Do you need AWD? If you don't, almost any other car in the mid-size sedan class would be a better alternative. How about a Mazda 6 or an Accord Sport?

Yup. I have a longish commute and we get plenty of wintry stuff in PA.
