So, gonna try & get this painting project underway I've been wanting to do for a couple months now. I know it'll probably just be Swiss Coffee by the gallon & just rolling it w/ some minor cut-ins. (Just walls & baseboards, not doing any doors or frames.

Any suggestions for paint and materials?? (I just glanced last night & saw a half-dozen different friggin' 2 mil, 3 mil, 8 mil, 100,000,000 mil drop cloths & all I wanted was something good/cheap & easy)

Also, I'd guess 3/8 or 1/2" nap, cheap rollers for a lightly textured drywall??

TIA

i'd get benjamin moore too.

i repainted my basement and was a total noob to painting and got glidden. and man that shit sucks. it's thin as hell and requires a ton of coats. it also chips fairly easily.

i did some wiring and had to punch holes in the walls of various colors, and when i painted it after being finished, i used both behr and benjamin moore paint. the previous owners left paint that they used so it was easy for me to match.

the benjamin moore was by far the best. it's extremely thick and did not require that many coats at all. the behr is also very good, just not as good as the benjamin moore. but the glidden is a distant 3rd. i just would not recommend it to anyone with the other 2 alternatives. if there is a color you like that is behr, go for it. but if there is one in glidden you like, i'd suggest finding one in the other brands in a similar color.

if i knew what i did now, i would have gotten a similar benjamin moore color when i did my paint job.

No matter how good of an idea it seems, painting a room black usually doesn't work out well.

Don't cheap out on good brushes or masking tape. Start out, ie practice on the part of the room where it will least show.

3/8 nap rollers will be fine. Drop cloths don't have to be too heavy...and you're gonna throw them away when you're done, so don't spend more than you have to...

Personally, I've had excellent results with Behr paint. I've repainted the inside of two houses with it and have no complaints at all.

If you have to tape, I DO recommend Frog Tape over the blue painters tape. IMO, it works better...but the directions don't tell you...after you apply it...get it lightly wet. It makes block paint better. (who knew?)

Cost a little more but worth the money....Benjamin Moore AURA!

Barely any smell...easy to paint on and easy to clean.

Psh...you don't make your own paint? Enjoy painting your walls with corporate filth.

Don't forget rolling papers when you're at the liquor store. And you'll maybe need some paint too unless you decide to start tomorrow.

When I paint the fumes sometimes make me break out in hives all over my body. I had to go to the ER before it was so bad. Even ventilating rooms does not help. But then I'm a sweet and sensitive snake like that.

Behr is the beat paint ive used. We actually use swiss coffee (semi gloss) for all of our base boards and crown molding. Its great stuff. I like it because it is thicker than a lot of paints.

Benjamin Moore is pretty much all I use. Recently painted my server rack/cable management system and other stuff all black. 1 coat primer 2 coats of paint. Turned out nicely. Even painted a metal server cabinet.
