Currently, I have a 17in Trinitron.. it's served me well. I'm looking for a good 19" monitor with good refresh rates and excellent 2D quality. I think I'd like to get away from the Trinitron monitors because I've had some distortion issues. Are there any technologies better than Trinitron within the $300 - $400 range?

Thanks

I do love my Philips Brilliance 109P20, but I suggest you do a SEARCH to gain some more info.

I second that. That monitor is unbeatable for the price, the image quality is excellent, no visible distortion, no damper wires, dead flat on both sides. Need I say more?

to those of you with a LG 915FT Plus...

do you guys have problems with geometry, and how's text readability at 1600 x 1200?

according to tom...

With regard to geometry, it has to be said the LG 915FTPlus was not one of the best in the test. Whether in 1280x1024 or 1600x1200, there were slight trapezoid effects at the bottom of the screen, which were hard to eliminate, no matter how much we tweaked. This makes it all the more a shame, because otherwise this monitor has huge assets. The OSD is well-designed and pleasant to use, with a very smart menu system. It has all the adjustments you can think of, including purity by zone. Its readability is excellent, the moiré disappears after the usual few adjustments, and the colors are warm and generally faithful. One of the outstanding advantages is the quality of the black on screen, much higher than the others in the test. To sum up, the 915FTPlus is a pretty attractive monitor that will appeal to users who cannot stand the Trinitron lines. It costs a bit less than its rivals, so it is a pity it has these geometry failings.

The g420 looks appealing -- i haven't heard anything bad about sony.

lots of people seem to like the viewsonic p95f and nec fp955 -- are these any good?

mad bonus points to 19" monitors that look good at 1600 x 1200...

I also have my eye on the G420. Any problems with that one?

I've looked at reviews for all of the suggested monitors, and it seems that most people love the monitor, but a few have terrible geometry or other problems. I'd hate to spend a lot of money on a monitor and it's shipping just to get one of a bad batch. It looks like I'd have to take a chance no matter what monitor I choose.

Yeah same here.

the 109P20 isn't at mwave.com. any other recommendations hovenas??

NEC, LG, Sony and Viewsonic seem to be the ones i'm deciding on...

NEC FP955
LG 915FT PLUS
Sony CPD-G420S
Viewsonic P95F

All of these have really positive ratings...

The only one i've seen so far is the sony, and it's awesome! haven't seen it at 1600 x 1200 though...

Any of these monitors good at that res?

also, distortions? colors?

and the LG has consistant dot pitch...though i've read somewhere that text quality isn't as good higher than 1280 x 1024...

btw, what is BNC? lotsa 19" high end monitors seem to support it..

I have heard great stuff about the Samsung 959NF, but I have no clue about price. I've seen the res at 1600x1200 and it's good.

I'd second the Samsung 900NF, And it can go all the way up to insane res (2048x1536 @ 68hz) and hits 1600 x 1200 at a sweet spot of 85hz. I've heard great things about it.

Anybody using the Viewsonic GS790? PC World really likes it but I've read some user reviews that aren't so positive. Thanks.
