Was thinking of updating my 'server' computer which does not need top notch speed (aka no overlcocking). Was thinking of 939 since the 165 are pretty cheap these days ($150). Anyways - I'm looking for a motherboard that will be reliable (running 24/7) - any suggestions? I was thinking of asus A8n5x but a bit worried since it has a fan that can break (on north bridge).

Note this is a home system and a reboot once every 3 or 4 months is fine (runs unix not windows) but I would like it to be reliable and 'correct' even though i'm not using ecc memory.

Wouldn't just about anything work? I've never had a mobo screw up on me at stock speed.

Most any decent board these days will work 24/7. I've never had a computer crap out on me, and I've always kept my computer on 24/7 for the past 10 years. Currently running a 9NPA+SLI and I'm quite happy with it. Overclocked or not, it's stable as hell.

Pretty much every board is good 24/7 these days. DFI is great for overclocking if you're into that. Asus is solid, Gigabyte etc.

I'm looking for a replacement 939 board.
I was running an asrock 939 dual sata board and it died recently. No overclocking and I ran pretty much 24/7 for about 10 months. I woke up one morning and it was dead.

I need a replacment that handles PCI-16 and would like 3 pci slots. Lots of boards to choose from, but I want something that will last a while.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you, however my DFI isn't dead but is dying slowly (Nvidia LAN died, IDE channel 1 died, then IDE channel 2 died, and now Sata controller is giving me errors) I'm thinking the Asus A8n Sli-Premium would be a reliable 24/7 365 board (hopefully all the kinks have been worked out). What do you guys think?

Check out the Asus A8R32-MVP. It's ~$30 cheaper than the A8N-SLI Premium, and the ATi chipsets run much cooler than nVidia. It's an incredible overclocker, which means it should be rock-solid at stock speeds.

Well... don't need a crossfire or sli system.... and ati doesn't have decent unix drivers so high end boards don't work very well under unix
