I need to get a really good one... Really fast but does not have a high pitched sound. Anyone with experience want to advise me to getting a certain kind?

Dear P:

O.K. If is the 6mm,or 8mm fans size, best one that I can recommend to you is this:

1. Fan with 2 ball bearing
2. With Temparature Monitoring Sensor included.
3. 3 pins,or 4pins(if is 3 pins, then extra transfomer will be nice to be included on yout purchasing, in case you would like to plug to your Motherboard directly).

Well... hope this help out a little bit. I would like to mention site link here, but, I guess fear of becoming "S", I will leave up to you where to buy.

Good luck!

Panaflo L1A(quiet) or H1A(high output)! Get them from CaseEtc.com or TeamAwe.com!

Well the thing is that the higher the air flow the noisier it will be, if you're looking for a quiet 80mm fan that makes almost no noise at 21db then go for the panaflo L1a's that they have at teamawe.com

However if you want something more powerful but a little bit noisier then I suggest you get a Sunon or maybe even a Papst if you can get ahold of one.

Just look around I advise you that you don't get a fan thats rated higher then 27 or 28db. And because of the limitations by physics, most good fans with similar db ratings will give the same amount of airflow. Just shop around, you may also want to check out 2cooltek.com and coolerguys.com

EDIT: grammar

ADDA 80mm fans are awesome. BUT they are loud. I use 4 of these guys in my Antec sx1030 case and run temps on my cpu around 31C with a Duron 700@950. The ADDA super high performance fans are rated at 50cfm and 41 db. I picked them up at www.phamcomputer.com for only $10 each....

Sunon and Panaflo high output are decent fans (though Sunon tends to have more attractive price). be ware that high output fans also are noisier...noticeably.

My instincts aren't perfect, but I'd -avoid- a sensor-controlled fan for -intake- air: that fan's sensor should -always- say "intake air's cool, I'll just idle away at low speed". Save sensor-equipped fans for -output- use; better yet, skip the issue by running a quiet fan at full speed as this may cool down hotspots elsewhere in the chassis by increasing overall airflow.

(Ideally, both intake and exhaust fans would have -remote- temp' sensors for measuring it where it counts, not where the fan blades are, right?)

I'm a big fan of GiZzO's page , yet I'll disagree with his/her/its recommendation, above, and rashly declare getting a Papst doesn't seem worth the effort/$ unless you're in Europe where they're cheaper and more available. I'm leaning towards a Panaflow in the purchase I'm about to make.

IMHO ----Sunon fans do a nice job --BUT they are loud (80MM). I put Coolermaster AF8-25IM-74 80MM fans in mine and I like them. They move 33cfm with 29 decibels for noise. Not the best for noise but alot quieter than the Sunon fans I had. Sunons move more air but at the expense of noise. I have one Coolermaster AF8-25IM-74 80MM in front, rear and blowhole. My temps are 24 C motherboard and 38 C CPU on a T-Bird 800 on an Asus A7V using MBM 5.03 monitoring software.

Hope this helps

Basilisk,

It seems (from the picture of the Enermax thermal controlled fan) that it has a thermal probe (attached on a wire), and you can position it inside the case, so you are measuring air in the case, not the air coming in. I actually ordered 2 of these fans, and I will report here whenever the fans get here (by ground).

Regarding Panaflo, they seem nice, the only thing that is bothering me about them is tha lack of RPM reporting to the motherboard. That was the only reason that I didn't go with them, even though they get good recommandations here on this BBS.

These fans are going to be a stage 2 of my quest for quieter PCs. I just replaced my Enlight power supplies with thermal controlled Antec PP303X. It seems that the noise from the power supply in not perceptible anymore compared to the noise of the air intake fans.

Basilisk i agree with you unless in europe Papst is pretty much out of the question, till a cheap source in US is found. Panaflo's are the most widely availble and at 5 bucks a pop damn good deal, but can't leave out Adda, PCP&C, Nidec...there a little under 10 bucks and they give a little more then the Panaflo L1A.
To me i would enlarge the hole and throw in my favorite fan the Nidec 92mm M34720 21db@34cfm alot more bang then a 80mm, its pretty easy to enlarge the hole from 80 to 92, its not that drastic of a change like 120mm would be.

Oh yeah forgot to mention that Nidec fan has a amazingly long life span of 120,000 hours.

jhalada - Thanks for the humbling correction: 'never seen a -remote- sensor on a fan til now. Too much cynicism to follow the URL: 'never expected someone to do it the Right way for intake fans. So many fans have the sensor barely sticking out from the hub -- which isn't criminal for exhaust fans.

Gonna get me another Enermax product now as I was looking for quieter fans -- tired of yelling "I can't hear you!" to milady. 'Love my Enermax 430w PS with its oodles of 4-pin connectors.

GiZzO -- didn't mean to insult those other companies, but the Panaflo seems more available at the places I've been looking. Perhaps I'm underrating Sunon, whose numbers hadn't seemed as good. Time to look around again.

80s that i've used:

Sunon
Adda
Panaflo
Sanyo-Denki
Nidec
NMB

All very good quality. Some are loud, but not high pitched.
