Yeah split window in touchwiz is actually awesome for that tablet. its alot better than i expected and works quite well. Again the screen is quite phenomenal.

I was able to get the tab s 10.5 for $320 at staples right before black friday... they had some deal going....

Clearly I'm not meant to have a new tablet this year. Was going to cave and buy an iPad Air for $319 at Staples. Guess what the Chattanooga Staples stores don't carry? lol Yep.

Best Buy doesn't even bother to put a price on them, but the Air starts at $399 and the Air 2 at $499. Meh.

EDIT: If the N9 comes out at $199 or even $249 tomorrow I may jump. Otherwise I may take a drive down to Atlanta Saturday and walk through Microcenter for one last hurrah before giving it up for the season. Probably after the flood of after-Christmas money they'll go on better sales.

EDIT TOO: Almost jumped on a Surface 2 for $299, but it runs Windows RT. The OS is dead, Jim - you get its wallet, I'll grab its tricorder.

I have both a Nook HD+ and an iPad 4 (upgraded from an iPad 2 for $65 about 8 months ago, buy selling mine, and buying a used iPad 4). I would highly recommend the iPad. I really want to like the Nook - the screen is nice, expandable memory, etc.. but it's just a pain to use. Mine is rooted with the latest stable CM Mod, but it's slow and laggy, and has a lot of weird issues. I would even recommend my old iPad 2 over it. You really can't go wrong with an iPad. My Nook HD+ was less than half the price of the iPad, but I still regret the purchase. I booght my iPad4

Microcenter has the 16GB model for $329, and the 32GB model for $359.

If you really want a lower res Galaxy Tab, you can get one used on Swappa:
http://swappa.com/buy/samsung-galaxy-tab-3-101-wifi

I bought my ipad 4 used from swappa for less than $300 (no tax and free shipping), and it was in perfect condition. They are more expensive now for some reason.

I actually ordered an iPad Air last night, $420 for 32GB at Staples. Screw it, I was tired of looking, and that required no drive to Atlanta. Also picked up a Samsung Tab 4 10" for my father. My mother replaced her Nook HD+ (whose sole failure appears to be that she forgot to charge it) and they have to have exactly the same thing.

I am now officially an iWhore as our two primary tablets are Apple. No iPhone or iPod though. Hopefully Apple can't figure out how to delete my music or cause me roaming charges on an iPad. lol

Thanks for the info on the rooted Nook. Think I'll root mine as well, but it's too unreliable for primary use. Some nights I spend more time rebooting it than playing on it, and I feared some of that was hardware-based.

My first Nook HD+ has been doing dedicated XBMC-remote (and a remote for media playback on my den receiver) for over a year now. Was a fun tablet to mess around with for a while, but eventually you move on. My wife's was in a drawer somewhere the last I saw it.

My parents are still loving the one I gave them though (running CM); they travel a lot and it's always with them.

Does have a beautiful screen. I prefer it as an ereader to our iPad. But the iPad, well, just works all the time. No blips, no reboots, no "Please wait while your data is loaded" for the twelfth time in twenty minutes.

I definitely found CM to improve the Nook quite a bit. In fact, I found it unusable without rooting/ROMing it and wouldn't have owned one if that hadn't been possible. I highly recommend it, although I have no idea of the current state of development at xda.

Congrats on the iPad Air! I feel differently about phones, but with tablets it's pretty hard to beat an iPad.

I think samsung galaxy or ANY tablet that is NOT APPLE is a good choice, I have galaxy tab 3 and I have an iPhone 4 I had to buy from pawn shop after losing my android phone because I have sprint and very few places deal with sprint phones because they don't have a SIM card and not easy to jail break or whatever, the point is that all the devices I have sync so perfectly and use the same power cord and when I got apple iphone to hold me over until I get the 2 year upgrade deal, I had to download iTunes just to sync music to my PC and buy new chargers and software/apps/ nothing is compatible with apple because they like to be proprietary to make that extra $$ that all other brands, HTC, Samsung, etc have made universal and so easy to connect all tablets/phones/PCs/ with compatible software and chargers for any other phone is universal but Apple can't even stick to their earlier chargers and make people spend more money on converting to apple only products, so unless you like to spend more money on a Mac, iPhone, and iPad ( doubt the chargers are cheap ) to have all devices apple made to make them compatible then I would not get anything apple. I can choose from any other manufacturer to mix n match tablet/phone with any PC and the galaxy tab ( the first one was actually a different charger that looks identical to the old ipod/iPhone charger I still use on the iPhone 4, but isn't the same and apple charger won't work, but the tablets now are the mini or micro, I can't remember the one they all use now , USB charger to be nice to charge with phone charger and any friends house has then as long as they aren't 100% apple ( overpriced stuff anyway) you will find that your tablet can be charged anywhere with the most universal phone charger around, if you want to sync phone apps to tablet you must have iphone to do it with iPad, or if any other phone ( I believe windows os too because I have windows 8 and my apps sync to tablet) will sync to non apple but apple and anything else won't . The apps of the same thing won't sync either because android phone play store Facebook app isn't the same as the iTunes iPad Facebook app, okay so I hate apple and it's for good reason. The MacBooks are 4 x more expensive than a PC with the exact same specs ram/hard drive/processing speed/ etc and unless you are needing a laptop for your job as a graphic designer then it's a waste of $$ to get a Mac over PC - the argument I hear is no viruses on a Mac, well if that's still the case someone is out there writing a virus to prove otherwise for a Mac now, but avast software is free and I have never had a virus using it.

So I would say anything but apple because you :
A- save tons of money on accessories
B- in order to sync you must convert all your devices to apple
C- apple devices are generally overpriced but MacBooks in particular are a waste of money unless a graphic designer / personal computers never need Mac programs
D- you can choose between any other products manufacturers besides apple and mix and match to have so many more options that will sync all your devices with no extra software
E- you will have a charger for tablet that can charge your non apple phone too and anywhere you go and forgot your charger will be the most universal charger available at your friends house/car/etc

So I can't wait to get rid of this iPhone and I'm going to wait till my 2 year contract renewal is up so I can get $200-$300 phones free or have that much discounted off more expensive ones. I had HTC EVO LTE 4g that I liked a lot, it's been 1-1/2 years so I'm sure HTC will have awesome compatible phones to sync with samsung tablet as it did before. I would love to get the newest galaxy tab ( is it 4 ?) I saw my friends and it's different than the 3 and the first one I have, thinking of selling the original galaxy tab and maybe some other electronics I have to get one, I'm keeping the galaxy 3 , it's brand new condition and still a great addition to life!

Yep - although if I hadn't waited until Christmas shopping began I probably could have found a better deal. Or if the Lenovo store hadn't decided we should all charge things on my credit card, I've no doubt I'd be perfectly happy with my Yoga now.

I do want to root my Nook when I get time, just not when it's my primary tablet.

Honestly I would have preferred a 10" Galaxy Tab S, but not a hundred bucks more. As far as accessories, our existing iPad has only a non-Apple cover, which was about the same price as our Nook HD+ cover and works about as well. (Covers up the rear speaker which sucks.) And as far as syncing devices, I'm one of those dinosaurs that carries a flip phone (Samsung Convoy) and have no plans to upgrade within the life of the tablet. I don't necessarily disagree with any of your points, they just don't much apply to me.

And whatever one can legitimately say about Apple as a company, their devices do work, and work well. I don't think our iPad has ever crashed, locked up, or required a hard reboot to maintain speed. Personally I would not buy an iPhone (because they push out things I wouldn't want at times I can't control) or an iPad (because they delete things you've purchased unless it's from them.)
