FallenHero, I don't personally own a Tarus nor have fired one. It was just the impression from looks and handling. You have first hand experience which overrides me

A Beretta 92 is going to be way over his budget, even used. At least as far as I've seen. Hell a basic 92F runs $650. Move up to tri-dot night sights and it's $700

I agree with what RGN said about going to a range and trying out different types.

This is a good way to find out what you would like before you actually buy. The feel of each one can be much different. You don't want to get stuck with a gun that you don't like to shoot.

I think ruger 8x/9x is pretty good in your budget, Beretta & Glock is little over your budget. If you consider revolver, I hear Smith & wesson is not bad.

I would personally go with the 19 because I like the size better. My uncle has a 21C and it is so sweet feeling.

Odd you prefer the size of the G19 if you like the G21. The G21 is a full-size Glock, like the G17, and is even slightly larger than the G17. The G19 is much smaller. I personally bought a G17 because I found the G19 too small for my hand.

My brother has several used G22's for sale, if you dont mind something chambered in .40 S&W.

actually, if you're willing to go used, he can probably find something in your price range, although he deals in h&k and sigs more. PM me if you're interested.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: meh. This is CZ/Springfield XD-9 money for an inferior pistol. I would take either over the Ruger in a heartbeat.

If you can sell used beretta 92's for 650, i'm in the wrong market.

Holy smokes - you use a 92FS for concealed carry? I like the Beretta pretty well, but it weighs three pounds and is gigantic for a 15-round 9mm pistol IMO. This makes it a decent combat pistol, but I can't imagine carrying one unless I were Shaquille O'Neal.

You mean G19 was too small for your hand and you got the G17? (Or vice versa?)

ANd just a quick question (I'm a total gun newb) - I hear a lot of people say Berettas aren't all that great for precision and accuracy - true or no?

I've had a ruger p89 and loved it. I liked it more than my roommates 92FS, and when he shot my gun he liked it better to as it had less recoil with the same ammo.

I know have the 9mm CZ100. There are 2 things I don't like about it: 1. it DAO and 2. It's really hard to find spare magazines for it.

D'oh! Brain fart typo.

The G17 is larger than the G19, and so I bought a G17. I could not get a comfortable grip on the G19. The G19 is a great choice for most, but I am 6'4" and have big hands.

Berettas are fine, and like most other modern pistols, they are much more accurate than nearly any mortal shooter.

Honestly my only Beretta experience is shooting government-issue M9s (the military version of the 92FS), and I am not especially fond of the design - to me they are too large, heavy, and cumbersome for a 9mm pistol with 15 round capacity. A Glock 17 holds two more rounds, weighs 12 ounces less, has a more rounded design for a clean draw, and is sturdier and more reliable in adverse conditions. Also, the early M9s suffered a lot of problems with the slides cracking, though this has largely been corrected, and I suspect a fair amount of this came from firing very hot rounds intended for submachine gun use.
