good aftermarket video card

Hi my wife is wanting to get an aftermarket graphics card as her radeon HD 4350 is a bit outdated now. She has this pc http://www.pcworld.com/product/382687/emachines_et183107.html?p=specs Are there any good graphics cards out there that will work in her pc without having to upgrade anything else?

that would certainly be a good upgrade over the current graphics card, but i am not sure if it would 1) fit in the case, or 2) hook up to the existing power supply.

If you open the case and see two 6pin power connectors free, then yes, you have the power (EDIT: It looks as though you only have a 250watt power supply... that can't really push a high end GPU)

If you open the case and measure clearances, i can confirm if it will fit.

Overall, if you go the "used" route, a 460gtx would be fine. Around $50 for regular version, STAY AWAY from "SE" version.

and it's around $90 for the Superclocked, not worth it..

overall, it's a pretty capable processor. 460 is a good idea. You'll need a new powersupply though.

How much do you want to spend? How big is the monitor?

Definitely suggest you upgrade the power supply as recommended above first - if your current one isn't strong enough to support a new card, it may sizzle and take out other components with it.

And I would point you toward this XFX 7770 as about the best deal among new cards:

yeah i plan on having her upgrade her psu first as i know that most graphics cards take more power than what her little 250 watt can handle

just get a 7750 with that cpu and low resolution. you still need to change the psu though as it is crap and cant even deliver 150 watts on the 12v in real world conditions.

how do you figure that though? a 7750 can be had for 90 bucks and a 6850 is 120 bucks. thats 33% more money for about 33% more performance so they offer same bang for buck. the 7770 can be had for same price as the 6850 though so I would get that over a 6850 if spending that much. I still say the 7750 is the best deal for him though for his cpu, resolution and oem case with poor airflow.
