Good and bad news for people who pre-order AoC

3 Day Early Access Period from FunCom and Eidos

You may begin downloading the game client software and installing as early as May 14. Then you may create a character and begin playing on May 17, 3 days before commercial release on May 20, 2008. You may play for 7 days after release while you wait for your retail box to arrive.

Your character and all progress will be preserved into commercial release. There is a nominal fee of $5 that covers the cost of the download and includes the 10 days of the Early Access game time. This fee is charged by FunCom and is not included in your GoGamer price. However, we have reduced our price by $5 to help you afford that fee.

We will email you a key code prior to May 17th that you may use to help unlock the Early Access program. The $5 FunCom fee still applies even with the key code.

We will provide details on where to download the client in our email


Kinda shitty that they are making you pay $5 extra to download and play the game 3 days early after already paying $50 for the regular version or $90 for the Collector's Edition.

And for the tards who are going to come in and say "you don't have to do it!!"
Obviously, you don't have to take advantage of it, but it's nice and other companies have allowed you to do it for free.

I agree. Starting a couple of days earlier than everyone else is normally one of the main perks for preordering.

Whatever, it's only $5.

If you pre-order dont you get a mamoth mount also? I dont do pre-orders but I was thinking of doing it for that alone. I dont really care about starting a character before other people but I can see why some will want to do that. To me though it doesnt matter I can wait till release day. Actually I was thinking waiting a couple days after just to avoid server/game problems. Getting a cool mount at start would be nice though.

Say what you want, but I think the best rollout for a MMORPG was, in recent memory, LOTRO. If you played the beta, you got to save your character and got to play him up to level 10 or 15. Can't remember. This way you were still an asset for your friends if they didn't pre order and you still felt like you got 'ahead of the curve'. And there was no "pay an extra fee to play before ANYONE ELSE!" crap.

I'm glad I'm done with MMORPGs though. Too much of my time spent oogling over pixels, sprites, zeroes and ones.

Well someone who is beta testing shouldn't really be offering up public comments as they're under NDA. Not sure what you're wondering, but I think its safe enough for me to say the game exists and is undergoing heavy beta testing as we speak.

i haven't hear that and i just checked out best buy's site and they don't even have the game listed so that you could pre-order it, so i highly doubt it's true.

This is not an Eidos Charge. This is Funcom charge which is probably anticipating a lot of people and charging 5 bucks.

Agreed, I think they did a fantastic job with that. I have not actually played the game in quite a while though...

Not sure if it has been mentioned or not but, at least at Gamestop, the $5 not only gets you the 3 day head start but also gets you 10 additional days of game play. If you say each month is 30 days and they charge $15 per month, then really all you are doing is paying for 10 days in advance to get a 3 day head start.

I have accepted that many aspects of this game will be a WoW clone, now the question is wither or not it's a pos WoW clone or a good WoW clone.

Going to hold out for the final verdict, even if I lose the advantages of a 3 day head start (and i can think of a few).

I agree that some aspects will be what some would consider a WoW clone, but I think this will be much less of a "clone" than some of the other MMOs on their way. Will it take some of those elements that made WoW as popular as it is to appeal to the 10 mil people who play it, sure, why wouldn't it? However I feel that it will bring enough new things table to set it apart from not only WoW but everything else out there.

I've read a lot of comments that were disappointed with the game. They say combat needs some work, say it isn't smooth. The game is still full of bugs too, i guess. PVP imbalance is supposed to be bad. Don't really care though, I have been looking forward to it and will probably pick it up anyways.

Personally I won't pay much attention to what people are saying until the NDA is removed or I get a spot in beta. People can say whatever they want but until I see it for myself I am going to take it with a grain of salt.
