It's already gone through at least 3 large story arcs. For a description, I look at it like... One Piece + Magic = Fairy Tail. Natsu is very, very similar to Luffy. The original FMP series didn't hold the spirit of the manga as it was too serious. Fumoffu was by far better and actually was a lot closer to the manga. I still love the episodes where Sousuke is fighting in the bear suit... the original series... not so much.

I'm going to toss in my favorite show, Scrapped Princess. I've seen a lot of anime but this one is still tops.
For me, an anime has to have a good ending for it to be truly good. There's way too many shows that are good then fizzle out. I know it's due to the manga storylines and belated second seasons (like FMA), but it's still annoying when you don't get any resolution to the story.
