Ugh, I stopped reading Death Note when they introduced the "corporation." Was purely ridiculous fluff at that point. I did watch the live action movies though.

Well, one benefit is that it's really short... only 12 episodes that are 13 minutes long (each usually being two mini-episodes at that).

New Ippo anime starts in January!

Someone mentioned the first season of Code Geass but not the second season. That is crazy. The second season is just as good, and unlike practically every anime, Geass has a proper ending.

A few other good mentions I've seen in here so far:

Spice and Wolf
Real Drive (which is finished now)
Detroit Metal City
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Macross Frontier (if you've seen other Macross shows, you'll get more fun out of it)

You'rre on crack. CG went from a show with tactics and realisitc mechas to HOLY SHIT EVERYONE IS FLYING, MASSIVE BEAM LAZORS EVERWHERE, AND A KING PUTTING ANOTHER KING IN CHECK IN CHESS. And yes, somone managed to put a king in check using another king..

I found Gurren Lagann to be boring.. the first six episodes are the same thing with a big fight each time with a new enemy.. does it get any better at all?

I just finished Code Geass, which was awesome until about ep 20 in s2 when it seems to have dragged on a bit.

I have Death Note and Hellsing ready to go, but I need a break after marathon Code Geass the past two weeks.

Does anyone have any recommendations for any other animes like School Days? I enjoyed that one.

Today in Class 4-2.

I think that's similar to it.

You are kidding me....Full Metal Panic (Which was good up to what...episode 9 and then went to total shit? I only pushed forward just because it was the summer and I had nothing to do ). I feel like some people watch and completely forget what should make a good anime, as opposed to what is hella retarded. Of course, it is my [strong] opinion, but i'm flabbergasted over the love affair with that.

If you liked Hellsing, you'll like Deathnote. It is very amusing and fun, although some parts are just too unrealistic to me. But if you can take the storyline of Hellsing, the storyline of Deathnote isn't THAT much different.

Also Gundam Seed is worth it (there are some filler episodes though...but you can figure it out quickly because they decide to sit down and reminisce about the past) if you can manage with 50 episodes. Don't bother with Destiny, which is total shit.

You know... I mentioned the Fairy Tail manga earlier and I have to say... with being at 114 chapters, I'm surprised that they haven't even announced an anime for it yet. It's already gone through at least 3 large story arcs. For a description, I look at it like... One Piece + Magic = Fairy Tail. Natsu is very, very similar to Luffy. Oh and all the chicks in Fairy Tail have huge boobs which is something Eichiro Oda seems to do quite often as well. Fan service to the max!

EDIT:

The original FMP series didn't hold the spirit of the manga as it was too serious. Fumoffu was by far better and actually was a lot closer to the manga. I still love the episodes where Sousuke is fighting in the bear suit... the original series... not so much.

Ugh, don't even compare Hellsing to that utter shit Death Note. Also, don't even compare that utter shit Hellsing series to the Hellsing Ultimate OVA. "Hey, let's do what we think is cool in Hellsing instead of sticking to the manga."

Hellsing's so over the top though.

Soul Eater is good too. Probably an homage to both Bleach and Naruto, though.

Manga> Anime, but shrugs, it wasn't as bad as some other anime I have watched like Zero no tsukaima. Fumuffu was hilarious in my opinion.

Not sure which Hellsing you're referring to.

Soul Eater is kind of fun as it presents a lot of goofy comedy/light-hearted fun and doesn't really ever present itself as a fighter anime. It's kind of like what Dragonball was.

Also Kenshin isn't so bad if you cut away the fluff. Literally just start watching at the Kyoto arc and stop when it's done... you'll never know the difference and save yourself the heart ache at the generally poor arcs that follow (although I didn't mind the Amakusu Shougo one).

CG R2 was all over the place, but the ending redeemed it.

I'm going to toss in my favorite show, Scrapped Princess. I've seen a lot of anime but this one is still tops.

For me, an anime has to have a good ending for it to be truly good. There's way too many shows that are good then fizzle out. I know it's due to the manga storylines and belated second seasons (like FMA), but it's still annoying when you don't get any resolution to the story.

That's why I said the manga > anime for most of them.

The moments that anime>manga (for me) are for things like facial expressions with the sound effects (yakitate japan), little things like GOD DAMN SHIT! (soul eater). I find myself just chuckling internally while reading the manga, but seriously laughing out loud when seeing it animated.

heh, I think I know which one you are referring to; isn't that the girl whose pic is floating around on the intrawebs?

I think that's similar to it.
Minamike is better in every way, though both are from same people and great You got to wonder what one would find amusing in school days though, I don't think overall quality of production was anything to write home about. If it was the frantic sequence of drama towards the end, Kiminozo and Gift comes to mind.

The original FMP series didn't hold the spirit of the manga as it was too serious. Fumoffu was by far better and actually was a lot closer to the manga. I still love the episodes where Sousuke is fighting in the bear suit... the original series... not so much.
you mean, the light novel? I know they have a manga adapation as well, but the very first work was a light novel IIRC. agreed on fumoffu vs the first series. Kyoani vs gonzo is a night and day difference as one might guess.

that too, and mangas don't have voices in them; some watch subpar series (eg akaneiro) just for the sake of getting their favorite seiyuu fix. also, the creators have some leeway to do little things like injecting their own in-jokes, replace. aging references/parodies with more up-to-date ones and so on. Notable anime-better-than-manga series: LuckyStar, Pani Poni Dash and Galaxy Angel (though this was more of a mediamix strategy that just happened to work best for the anime version). light novels are emerging as the most common source for anime adaptation, and I would argue they are better suited in that than mangas are due to their relatively short length and highly descriptive style of writing.
