Good board for gtx 260?

I'm still running an old x800XT AGP with an AMD 3500+ so it's time for an upgrade.

I'm picking up the EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Superclocked card but I also need a new PCI board. Can anyone recommend a good board in this price range ($150 or less). It doesn't have to be SLI.


I will be running a E8500 with G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500). I wont be doing any overclocking.

WEll , you would need a motherboard with pcie 2.0 i think or at least 1.1

No problem tuteja. that was my fault for not posting what cpu/ram. Thanks for the help anyway.

I've been reading through the other threads. Since I won't be using SLI. Would a p45 board be a better option? Something like the ASUS P5Q-e?

If you don't need RAID, my $95 Gigabyte P43 board has been flawless so far with an E8400 and ATI 4870: newegg

The stock HSF is quiet on the E8400 using the BIOS fan control on the gigabyte, the E8500 probably is too since it's only slightly faster.

yeah , i like that motherboard but not with it stock BIOS. If you do end up getting Gigabyte motherboard , make sure to upgrade the BIOS.

yeah , i like that motherboard but not with it stock BIOS. If you do end up getting Gigabyte motherboard , make sure to upgrade the BIOS.

I thought most GB boards shipped with an updated BIOS already, there was a time where AT members were getting different batches, some updated and some not. But that was like 2-3 months ago at least.

Well it really depends on where you order it from. If they have newer stock then it should have the newer bios, but if the place you order from doesn't sell a lot of that board, then it probably will be the old bios.

Upgrading the bios should be automatic, the first thing you do on a system...
