"...a lot of pickup owners actually use them for hauling stuff instead of commuting."

Still stuck on the fact that they aren't used for what they're "intended", eh? Damn you clowns are THICK! I don't hear anybody ragging on sports car owners for not using them for what they're "intended". They get poor mileage, pollute and are driven dangerously too.

You've YET to tell us what these people should buy instead, given that they want a full framed, V8 powered, RWD vehicle with some room. Third time I've asked, what's your problem? Blow it out your ass if you can't offer these folks a legitimate alternative!

That?s not true about sports cars or muscle cars anymore. In the early 70's they left the HP tap wide open. Today it's entirely different story. While the horsepower keeps increasing, the emissions keep decreasing. They have one major advantage too and that?s weight. A 3000-pound vehicle with an eight cylinder traveling at the same speed as a 5000-pound eight cylinder vehicle is going to require less fuel. The LS1 engine that?s in my Camaro SS and in the 97+ Corvettes gets close to 30 miles to the gallon traveling at highway speeds in 6th gear. The engine is barely making 1500 RPM to do so. Putting that same engine in a 5000-pound mobile barge and you'll be seeing mpg in the teens.

I don't drive my SS everyday. I usually drive my 4 cylinder DOHC 93 Grand AM SE to make the 35 mile drive to work. When I drive my SS, it's usually after I've been tweaking the engine, going to the track, or if it's a good day on the weekend. I can't keep track how many times I've seen someone drive an SUV and they?re the only ones in the vehicle, or their not hauling anything. They have the opposite mentality that I have. I want less weight, they want more. When an SUV driver brags about his V8 engine being fast. Sure it's fast, in another vehicle. You'll need that V8 engine to keep up with the 4 banger cars out there and you'll be using 3 times the fuel to do so.

I'm aware that some SUVs (like the MDX) are rated as ULEV, but most are not, and since it still gets worse mileage then a car, it still is a worse polluter over a given number of miles.

My MDX gets about the same mileage as my previous car (GS300) considering how much stuff I need to haul (2 kids, mom-in-law, wife, strollers, etc.)

But I do agree with alot of stuff people say about SUVs here. I especially hate it when people drive SUVs like they are performance vehicles, riding your bumper while you are going 65mph, etc. I always try to keep a larger distance between cars now more than ever because I know my 2 ton+ truck won't stop faster than a Camry or Accord. Some people just don't have that kind of common sense though.
