엄마 사랑해요. Mom, I love you. You are the embodiment of selfless love. You are now in my every heartbeat.

Mom aka 'Jinny' (August 29 1953 - October 17 2021)

---

My mom (65) had an acute chest pain this AM.

Went to emergency room. My dad called me in distress and had a conf call with the doc.

Her aorta was rupturing. She immediately went into an open heart surgery at 1p today with the surgeon saying if it ruptures then it's game over.

7 hours later she made it. The doc said it was a mother of an open heart surgery. They spent last 3 hrs just trying to stop bleeding. Talking about my mom like that made me dizzy.

It was the scariest 7 hours of my life.

I kept saying 'not today, mom.'. She did nothing but work so I can have a better life... You can't fucking take her away year 1 into retirement...

Not 100% out of the woods yet but surgery was successful.

Please call your mom...

Hopefully she makes full recovery. Had almost lost my mom about 3 years ago. She did flatline for several minutes. She remembers everything during that time. Brings me to tears hearing her tell the story.

Had 2 valves replaced, and she is back working, she is forgetful now, but is 74 and still works harder than anyone I know.

Best wishes for your mom to make it back to her normal activities.

Absolutely great the doctors saved her, may the recovery be excellent, and glad the hospitals up here are fully functional and not overwhelmed, saving precious lives like your mother's. Good she went to the hospital as fast a she did.

I think my dad had something like that happen. He survived, lived another 15+ years. Glad your mom is doing OK, hope she makes a full recovery. That was a close call. My brother was a vascular surgeon. He took me golfing one day when I was visiting him. A guy comes up to us and thanks him for saving his wife's life. He took this completely in stride like it happened every day.

My mom died in her sleep at 98.5 YO. Saw her two days before and she was "fine" and happy. She was a project for myself and my sister in the last years, keeping her alive and OK, had her in a good assisted living facility close by. Progressive slowly developing congestive heart failure had her slowing down and the heart just stopped working.

Damn that's scary stuff. Glad they were able to save her! It's sad watching parents get old and run into more health issues. My dad is dealing with all sorts of stuff right now including possible prostate cancer, waiting for results.

Thank you. This is Georgia (Atl).

Fyi - they only allow one visitor per patient.

Yesterday dad was with her. Today I'll be visiting her when she opens her eyes this am.

I plan on showering her with flowers and balloons.

So sorry to hear about such a serious thing. 65 is way too young for any of that. I know we are all hoping for a swift and complete recovery. Please keep us informed.

Those covid visitation rules are a real pain. My husband had a heart procedure last summer and I couldn't even come into the hospital - felt like I was driving up to the entrance, kicking his butt out the car door and driving on.

As someone that went through Open Heart Surgery, I understand both sides. It's frightening to see someone you love in that situation. It's also frightening to be the one on the table. My surgery was 5 - 6 hours long and my GF and sister were very worried about it.

I am glad she's doing well. Day one in the ICU is the worst. It will get better once she's in her room. Then the real recovery begins.

Be there for her as she is going to need all the support she can get.

My mom was in the hospital a couple times in her 90's. My sister, a geriatric PT, also lived nearby. She stressed that we should try and make sure she wasn't too sedentary in the hospital. When it was appropriate for her to get up and walk around some, to make sure she did that (with whatever assistance was appropriate)... that it was fundamental to her maintaining her strength, viability. Of course, your mom is much younger, but I'd think the same principle would apply. It would be good to have earnest conversations with her doctors about steps appropriate to facilitating good progress in recovery.

My mom flatlined when I was 5 (genetic heart defect coupled with anxiety disorder). I used to always talk about how my mom came back from the dead when I was a kid. No idea what my life would look like had she not recovered.

trust me, she will be walking ASAP. That is how it works for OHS. As soon as she is able to stand, they will have her taking steps every day after that.

Glad your mom is in recovery. But please make sure someone is by her side at all times as she is recovering from this. My father underwent triple bypass back in 2012. Because of work, I couldn't be by him as much or often as I'd wanted. Being left alone in that room by himself really messed with his mind.

Thank god your mother made it.

My mom passed away at 65 from septis. We really never know when our life will end. Yea, I know it's a tired saying, but so true. Enjoy each and every day. Never take anything for granted. Know that our time on this planet is very limited. Even if you were to live untill 100 its still all so short. Hope your mom is doing well.
