Hi Guys,

I am new here. Tried searching for same topic but couldn't find the exact same thing.. kindly direct me if one exists.

I work in animation industry and move countries every 6-12 months. So I am trying to build a small PC (HTPC or mini tower I am not sure but see the case below) but with all the power I can get... as I do a lot of vray / maya renders with fur and other jazz. Here is the config I am going for:

Proc: Intel Core i7 - 3930 k @ 3.2 GHZ
Motherboard: Rampage IV GENE X79 mATX
Graphic card: Nvidia GTX 570 1280mb
Ram: 2X 8GB GSkill 1600mhz
Cooling: Corsair Hydro Cooling H60\
HDDs: 1X Intel 520Series 120 GB HDD
1X Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM
PSU: Seasonic s12D 750 Watts 80 plus Silver
1 X DVD writer

Now the case I have decided based on availability and some internet research is Aywun A1-301

Now need to know by the "gurus":

* If A1-301 case will have any issues or not
* If anyone has build a machine with GTX 570 or that sized card with liquid cooling in smaller cases than this case
* Is 750W PSU enough for this config and if there is any better/ lighter PSU

p.s. noise levels is not an issue and can keep the case side panel open if it heats. The only things I care is size, weight and performance

Thank you

Got a few points;

RAM - Get 4x4gig sticks, this motherboard is quad channel. Also this will be cheaper than 2x8gb sticks.

PSU - 750 is fine, just get a good brand. Seasonic is great

Case - Why are you wanting to shove thousands of dollars of pc into a $60 case? And then mentioning the fact that it may overheat and you'll want to open the side. If you get a good case you won't need to open the side ever. Get something like a Corsair 400R/500R or Antec P280. Don't get an AYWUN toy

Other then that it looks good, I'd probably go with a high end air cooler but the H60 will do fine for your chip.

Just one last thing, why the GTX 570? Are you doing Cuda work or need PhysX?

The mATX X79 boards have only 4 slots, so 2x8GB will leave room for upgrades.

750W is overkill. Such a system probably won't use over 500W or so. Get something like a Seasonic S12-II 520W, or Antec Neo Eco 520W, or XFX Core 550W. BTW, all else being equal, usually a lower wattage PSU is lighter than a higher wattage PSU.

Since you may be moving the system, I would suggest a big air cooler.

I don't know what brands are available to you, but there are decent mATX towers on the market. Look for Lian Li, Silverstone, Cooler Master (on the cheap end), Fractal Design, probably some others. Lian Li will be aluminum, so the most light weight except for an aluminum Silverstone, but that case might be too small.

Thanks a ton guys for your reply...

This A1 case is light weight. since I am moving from Australia to Canada I wish to take this comp with my checked in baggage. My idea was if I see any issues with the case I'll get a new one in Canada and loose only $40 for the case. (I get 100% tax benefit in Aus and thats why I am not building my PC in Vancouver)

Because I already have it in my existing machine. And I am a gamer too ;p

I agree...

Yeah I was trying to limit my PSU to 650. But I checked power consumption for this config here http://www.pugetsystems.com/configu...4,19865,12419,19853,12393,116,12394,96,97,492

with my config and it shows this

which is peak usage 500W but then there will be external hard drives, wifi receiver, wireless mouse etc so thought I'll have 100 w more for safer side. Please let me know if 650 is really enough and I'll change that.

I will definitely try to get "Lian Li PC-V600F" Thanks for suggesting Lian Li its awesome... light weight and yet full of features. But its hard to find it here.

Again your help is really appreciated.

External 3.5" HDDs have their own wall wart. Wireless mice have their own batteries. The standard for a USB port is 500mA output at 5v, which is 2.5W. USB 3.0 gives more at 4.5W (900mA 5v). That's for powering anything which doesn't have its own power like external 3.5" HDDs. External 2.5" HDDs will usually be port powered so will take the full amount or more with a Y cable. All those numbers are the peak supported by the USB standards. Actual devices may use less.
