Well, Ive always just used POS 5 dollar AR speakers on my systems, but now I feel like its time to venture into the world of good sound.

Everytime I turn up the volume to a good song im listening on my crappy Labtec speakers, it starts a low buzz so I just have to turn it down again.

Right now, I dont want to spend more than 50 to 70 bucks, I just want to see how much of a difference better speakers make. If I start really enjoying good sound, then I think i'll go steal yoyoyohowsdajello's set.

The stuff I'll be listening to are mostly music and games.

So, what do you guys think are some good speakers around 50 to 70 bucks?

thanks

The Logitech Z-3e 2.1 sets are the best in this price range for decent sound quality in 2.1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836121116

If you don't mind taking a small hit in sound quality and want a 5.1 setup, then for the same price the Logitech X-530 set is hard to beat: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836121118

If you are serious about 2.1 sound, and want REAL sound quality without breaking the bank, then it is hard to beat the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified set--but it is more than double your price range but has a $15 instant rebate right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836119101

Dont bother buying a 70 dollar set. Get a pair of klipsch 2.1's. Search em on newegg they're prolly like $150. You'll never go back to welfare speakers again!

QFT--IN A BIG WAY. I own two sets of the ProMedia 2.1's and they are what I will always use from now on for myself and premium builds for others. LOUD AND CLEAR has a whole new meaning with these bastards...

z-3's are a good price point. However if you have the money go for something like the z-2300's, you will not be disappointed.

If you MUST go speakers, I would go with the x-530's. I had them and they were a step up from my 2.1 setup, but now I have headphones.

Sennheiser HD-280 Pro's are the bomb. Right around $70 too and I would say you go with those, they beat almost any computer speaker setup and are a ton better for gaming!

Yeah, z-530, z-3, and Creative T3000 are around the 50 dollar price range. And stop recommending him all these uber-expensive stuff.

Watch out, I just watched Kill Bill 1 and 2 at -15dB, so I'm ready.

If headphones would work for you, prochobo is right about getting something really nice in this range vs speakers.

Besides the ones mentioned already, if you're willing to go refurb, you could get a nicer set in this range. z-2200s could be had in this range for example.

A friend of mine ordered z-560s from this site and they were like brand new when she got them. Reseller ratings weren't spectacular last time I checked though...

whats the best headphones arounds to do some sound editing with..
I like to hear clear crisp noise, most of the music I have are lossless codecs rips or downloaded from allofmp3.com for an awesome PRICE (approx 4.00 per albums with that encoding.. if not, near a dollar per album at typical 192kbps.)

I didnt like the bass coming from the Logitech Z3, very muddy. I rather have no bass than sh!tty bass so I bought the Promedia 2.0 for $99. Pretty good for the money especially if your intended usage is mostly music. But if its 50/50 on games and music and you only want to spend $70 than another vote for headphones.

I vote for headphones over speakers. Better sound for the same price point you are looking for. The Sennheiser HD-280 Pro's that prochobo recommends. They sound awesome for the price.

"Best Headphones"?

Go to head-fi.org and check out what's available.

You can easily spend $500 or more on stuff that a lot of people would consider basic over there.

I'm pretty happy with my HD280s though.

buy and build your own setup; you'll probably get more boom for your money... drop any decent car audio setup in your home and you'll rattle your windows for less than 200.00 ; if you ebay the speakers and can manage pickup (won't have to pay for shipping) you can do it for a hundred or less......

lets see..... 2 hours to build your own twin 12 inch sub box (using plywood that you got for free)
$20.00 shipped for a 300 watt pyramid eq/amp on ebay
$30 at radio shack for a good AC to DC converter to power that eq/amp...
the other $50 on speakers.....

combine that with a good pc sound card = happiness.

not sure but if sb wants to buy $70 speaker set let him buy $70 speaker set. You can actually get amazing value at this price. I know, I know it is all disgrace to golden ears of those who own them, but let's face it, most of us do not....
$70 should suffice for 5.1 speaker sets like:
-Creative Inspire P5800
-Logitech® X-530
Both are currently priced at $79 at manufacturer's so but I am pretty sure you can get them for less than $70 - a brand new kit.
I am not saying they are better or worse than a pair of good headphones, but if you want speakers you get speakers. I used to have 5100 speaker set from Creative, which had sligtly lower specs than both setsabove - but honestly - for this price - it kicked ass. My room is only 9x12 feet, and for that space it was good enough

I am pretty sure that I want speakers instead of headphones.

Im kinda weary about getting refurbs, though especailly from a site with not so great reviews.

Seems like alot of people are reccomending the Logitech x-530's. are those good? I think I saw them at sam's club for 53 bucks B&M, thats seems pretty hot.

cheap and good... ? 60-70 entry level. not really good. minimum 150+ for decent. don't expect too much. i say spend more and be satisfied or not spend at all. 70 dollars of cr@p is 70 dollars that could have been used towards a better set.

Good for a basic 5.1 set. If I needed to get a new 5.1 set in this range, that's what I would get.
