Well its my Junior year in high school and its time to start finding colleges to go to. So assuming alot of people here are in a computer field, I wanted to know your opinion on colleges with good computer engineering fields. I currently live in Michigan, and I dont mind going to a college out of state. I have been looking at a few colleges such as, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, or a college in Florida.

Also how many years in college am I looking at for a good degree?

Thanks!

Michigan is pretty good for computer engineering and since its in state the tuition will be cheap. Thats my suggestion.

Yeah I went to Camp CAEN there when I was in high school. They had one of the most networked campuses at the time. I vote for Michigan as well.

What kind of grades do you have? SAT/ACT score?

Out of state is usually expensive as hell if you don't have great grades/scores.

I will have to suggest NC State. But michigan is definitely a good choice if you want to keep it cheap(er). And plan on 5 years unless you do summer school every year.

University of Michigan is an excellent engineering school. MSU is also pretty good, but maybe not quite the level of Michigan.

If you're in Michigan, there's nothing wrong with UM - they have a pretty well regarded EE/CmpE program. I'm a CmpE student at Ga Tech right now, so if you have any questions about GT, send me a PM and I will try to answer them.

Carnegie Mellon > All in Computer Science. I would definitely apply there and in the mean time try to improve your gpa (and get involved in extracurriculars if you are not already).

If you are interested in Robotics at all, then Carnegie Mellon >>>>> everyone else.

Don't forget University of Phoenix.

It's ludicrous to lump IIT-Bombay in the same vein as the other three.... It's one of the hardest undergrad institutions to get into in the world, and will give you a first-class education, if you can survive it.

For the OP, other than the usual MIT, Stanford, UC Berkley , UIUC and Georgia Tech, I can't give any other advice... are you sure you want to do CompE, or do you think you might want to become a EE or Comp Sci major instead?

Michigan is supposed to be a really good engineering school from what I understand.

I enjoyed my time at Wisconsin. There are several good engineering schools in the Big 10.

If you want to write software, you're probably going to want to check out Computer Science, unless by software you mean firmware.
