my family has been discussing plans to move from the bay area to the sacramento area... if we're moving we'll probably buy a new house but we don't know much about the area, as in like good communities and stuff.

anyone have an idea where should we start? I can't find much places online but then my search skillz are not 1337.

how much are you looking to spend? (if you dont mind me asking)

roseville is about 15-20 (with no traffic, and that usually is not the case at all) minutes away from downtown sacramento, and is one of the fastest growing communities in america. a lot of my friends work construction, they cant put up buildings fast enough.

I myself live in carmichael, a suburb built more then 50 years ago. I used to live in a really ghetto part of north sacramento and it...well, sucked.

There are lots of beautiful homes and new developments all surrounding the metro area, it just depends on how much you want to spend, where you will be commuting to, etc etc.

There's expansion in the sacramento region, north, south, and east.
I've lived in Sacramento and the surrounding areas for 20 years and there's no perfect place to live. The central city is pretty bad. If you live close to the Sacramento or American River, it's pretty good. That would include the Greenhaven area, Arden, and Carmichael.
Right now, the main developments popping up are in North Natomas (close to the airport, Arco Arena, 5-10 minutes from downtown), Elk Grove, which is a recently incorporated city south of Sacramento, and the Roseville/Rocklin area, which is also booming with new homes.
Roseville/Rocklin is along highway 80, towards Reno

Of the 3, North Natomas has the best traffic, in my opinion. I'm amazed at what traffic has become in Sacramento, but it could be worse.

You'll be hard-pressed to find a community as nice as Granite Bay.

One of my best friends is from Cameron Park, which is really quaint and nice - houses are affordable (compared to Bay Area prices) and nice, and I hear the school district there is excellent. Also pretty close to skiing. =)

Granite Bay is one of the best, I'd say. Elk Grove and Roseville are also very new and nice communites, although with a lot cheaper prices so you don't really get the whole "only good people live here" effect.
