Good CRT for gaming

I currently have a 17" NEC Multisync LCD1765. All i do is hardcore gaming on my PC, so i'm looking to get a really good 19" CRT, for when games like Doom and STALKER come out. I just bought this LCD a few weeks ago and i can really notice a difference when i play games like Far Cry. It's finally starting to get to me, the objects in games are too blurred together for me. When you play games and pretty much ONLY games on your computer, its an easy thing to notice a difference in picture. I love how the picture looks when i'm surfing the web or watching a movie, but for games it bothers me.

Whats a good 19" CRT that will give a good picture for games? Also, if you could provide a link to the product or just a price, that would be GREAT as well!

Thanks in advance!!

Edit: Also, what is a good DVI cable i can get to make the picture on the LCD look better for games, or are they all the same?

Get one with a Trinitron mask and also one that can do at least 1600x1200@85 Hz. The best 19" monitor is the Sony CPD-G420 IMO but you might not be able to find it anymore.

You want a really good 19" then this is what you want. Mitsubishi DP 930. Free shipping and 10% off from Dell, excellent return policy (which is hard to find for monitors). Its worth every cent and you will not find a better crt. The 930 has a true flat screen and TUBE, other crt's have a slightly curved tube with a flat plane of glass in front of it and call it a flat screen. The 930 has a dot pitch of .24 . Has perfect geometry. Has the Mitsubishi U-nx gun which is a single gun where all other aperture grill monitors have a 3 gun focus system. The U-nx provides sharper focus. You want a crt to make games look like a picture and razor sharp text then this is your ticket. If you want a low price shadow mask with lower refresh rates at higher resolutions the Samsund 955 will fit your ticket.

Go to your local Best Buy and check this one out in person before you buy online. I really like the Samsung 997DF.

Hi everybody!

My current 17" Viewsonic E773 is starting to have some issues. I originally had an Optiquest (cheap Viewsonic), but it had to be sent back to Viewsonic 3 times. So, they sent me a free replacement. It didn't feel free after paying for the shipping to them twice. Anyway, sometimes it won't send the image to the screen when I get out of standby mode...and the power LED will turn yellow, then flash red quickly. Also, the screen has suddenly turned black while I've been using it, as if I put it in standby mode! I have to turn it off and on when it does that. So it's time for a new one.

It seems like a nice 19" CRT monitor is pretty cheap these days. That Samsung 997DF has some nice features. I'll have to check that one out, especially because it's only $200! That's different to have software controls...never seen that previously. I don't know if I want to go with another Viewsonic considering my recent experiences.

Any other 19" flatscreen CRT recommendations? I play a few games (mostly FPS) and watch DVDs as well as the usual web surfing and online chatting.

I have the Samsung 997DF-great for gaming. Works well with my 9800pro/a64 2800 setup. Dvds look very sharp, and browsing is very nice. Only drawback is that there is no one touch button for ultrabright, but there is a software utility that does that called magic bright. Otherwise for $199-$20 mail in rebate, this is a great deal/great monitor. I came from a Dell/Sony flat screen apretaure grill, which I thought may have been brighter, but alas, I am happy. Post back if you need any help/

i love the trinitron tube for everything except mine got wavy lines on it like a few weeks after buying it. Great picture for gaming and text tho. As well, i have heard that diamondtron's are the best crt tubes you can get, no experiance from them tho.

I have a Mitsubishi 930SB, and I heartily agree with Bucksnort: it's an awesome CRT. I previously had a 21" Dynaflat, and while it was nice, the color saturation and brightness on an aperture-grill blow it away. Well-recommended.

I've loved my samsung 700NF (diamondtron tube I think). 1600x1200@75hz or so. The 900NF would be great most likely.

Aperture Gille for sure, Trintron or Diamondtron based. I have a Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 91 and other than the scrape I put into the glass, it's still awesoem after 3 years use.

KPSHAH316,

Can you tell me the dimensions of this monitor (the Samsung 997DF). Depending where you look on the Samsung site, the dimensions are listed as either

17.5" W, 18" H, 16.4" D

OR

17.5" W, 16.4" H, 18" D

I am really considering purchasing this monitor. But, it may be too deep for my desk if it is 18" D. Could you please measure your monitor and tell me if it is 16.4" D or 18" D?

Thank-you,

TheDoctor953

Another vote for the 930SB. I've found it to be an outstanding monitor.

try viewsonics p95 ($250 shipped) or nec/mitsu DP 930 ($300 shipped) Viewsonic is cheaper, but only has 0.25mm-0.27mm dot pitch(great for gaming/movies, not too great for wold processing). DP has 0.24mm which gives you clearer text.

Hi everybody!

I ended up buying the 19" Samsung 997DF at Best Buy (has a $20 mail-in rebate). I never realized how dark my old monitor was. Now I can see things in games and on the web that were shrouded in darkness. This monitor is awesome! I swear it weighs less than my old 17" Viewsonic E773. I'm definitely keeping it! Great suggestion, people!

anindrew, good pick! I am buying it soon. I was going to say that you should definitely get that one

Koudelka, a great monitor that won't cost too much is the 997DF that he just bought. I've seen the 955 and the 997, and the 997 is much better, not to mention that it has higher refresh rates than the 955DF.

Remember the samsung 997DF is .20mm dot pitch horizontally NOT diagonally. Manufactures started to use the horizontal measurement of dot pitch to make the spec look better than it really is. Normally dot pitch should be measured diagonally. The real dot pitch on this monitor is more than .20mm....very misleading...

One more thing to note about the Samsung 997DF. Bestbuy has a printable 10% off coupon good from july 23 to july 26 which is good for this monitor plus there is a $20 rebate.

$199.99 - 10% - $20 rebate = $159.99 + tax.

Good deal. Hard to beat.
