I found this (what appears to be Generic) internal 13-in-1 Card Reader .

It has 3 different face plates to match most cases, can read and write 13 different memory cards (including from card to card), and even has an extra USB 2.0 port in front.

Do you think $25 (free shipping) is a good deal on this?

Does anyone have any experience with this product, or know who manufactures it?

I dunno. Do you really *need* 13 dif't formats?

I'd say wait for a close to FAR one (like the 11-in-1 from eCost, pay shipping) or something like that that does the formats you need.

If your looking for a card reader that is internal, black, and reads xd (which I had been until I found one on ebay), this is a good deal. Still haven't received mine from ebay, but if you want a card reader with the above mentioned options, its hard to find them for less than $35.

13!!!! I just found this!!!
20-in-1 Card Reader And apparently this same company is making a 25-in-1 Card Reader!

Dear God! Where does it end??? How many freakin' memory card formats are there going to be? This is insane.

So, honestly what formats does one really need? The only ones I've seen in stores are Compact Flash, SD, Memory Stick, and XD.

At the rate things are going though (according to these manufacturers), one will need a 10,000-In-1 card reader by the end of the decade.

Well, it says 20 in 1, but I notice it only has 11 format symbols... Hmm.

The one I got on ebay was $15 shipped, although it doesn't look like its quite as high of quality as the one you mentioned. It uses 3.5" bay. It just arrived today, and I haven't got a chance to install it yet. As long as it works, that's all I care.

Well, I couldn't find any information as to who manufactures this card reader (I suppose I could have asked one of the various merchants selling it). Nor could I find ANY reviews on this product.

BUT, I decided to order it anyhow. The merchant, CensusPC.com has an excellent ResellerRating. So if there is any problem with it, I'm not worried.

I also ordered a floppy drive and 3.5 to 5.25 floppy mount kit from AeroCooler.com. Also, a company with an excellent ResellerRating. (My case has 4 external 5.25 bays and only 1 external 3.5 bay, in case you're wondering. And YES, the floppy drive is mostly a security blanket.)

Anyhow, these companies don't usually beat the big guys on the high profile items, but they sure do on the smaller items. (And hey I do like to save a few bucks here and there if it's from a trusted merchant).

Sorry NewEgg, ZipZoomFly, et. al. :lips:

I bought this exact same reader of Acortech 3 weeks ago for $19. It worked for 1 hour and then it died on me. Darn thing is made in Taiwan. I am thinking of getting a replacement, but it's not worth my time.

Oh crap, well that sucks! NOW you tell me. Did the whole thing crap out or just specific slots? I hope it didn't damage your media.

I wasn't sure how I would know if this thing was fully functional, as all I have right now as far as media goes is Secure Digital and Compact Flash. However, I did want to be prepared for other formats should I need them or come across them. In particular the ones you see all the time like Memory Stick and xD.

I was interested too so did a l'il poking around. These are apparently distributed (if not manufatured) by EuroCom LA, also the distributor for Matsonic mainboards. Other than censuspc ($25 + 0), acortech ($19 + ?) and via ebay ($10 + 10), as mentioned, other resellers are laptops4me ($14 + ?) and dealsonic ($16 + 6 with offer sc2offeuc0122).

I was looking at the INWIN CR-I500 which sports the requisite black colour and USB port however production seems to have stopped for unknown reasons (perhaps 7-in-1 is passé).

Anyone else had better luck with the EuroCom than flyswatter did? Any other candidates?

There is this arrowmicro 8-in-1.

Well there is no brand written on the box or the unit itself. But when I search for the model #mcr-20I13 via Google, it is indeed made by Eurocom. I am also looking to get another reader myself, but not by the same brand.

I ordered a few of these @ $17 each a couple of days ago, but have not received them yet. Look like the same ones posted by Glpster, but at a lower price. They come with a variety of faceplates. The shipping for me was $13 for three of them to AZ.

Here is another combo reader @ $21.99 + shipping (which is very reasonable). I received 4 of these last week, and they are good quality. I have used the Soyo combos before and they work very well.
