I bet a lot of KDS' LCDs get damaged when they peel & clean this thing off... The LCD screen seems so delicate... It's freeky to see the video warp while you're cleaning it.

Anyway, if alcohol doesn't work for you, try WD-40. I just sprayed some on a smooth cotton rag, damped the sticky areas a little, rub it for a second or two and its out.

I called Office Depot's main office and they said you could use the rebate for online orders also. Seeing as the online order (included free shipping) was the same price as picking up, I am going to pick up. Additionaly I don't see how a manager can deny a discounted sale after it was made and confirmed online. Just do the sale online, using the 20% off, and select to pick up. They have to accept it, don't they?

Has anyone actually received a rebate for an OD KDS purchase? I bought the RAD-5 in August with a 20% deal on line and the OD Walled Lake MI rebate center denied the rebate because I didn't submit an "original" rebate form -- I bought on-line and printed from OD's website. Lucky for me that the OD csr sent me to my local B&M OD to have them make good on the rebate -- refunded to the credit card I purchased with.

Got in on this deal and received the monitor yesterday, it's certainly a nice LCD for the price. There's still some glue gunk left... and I'm debating whether to try taking it off now.

Other than that, the monitor is in perfect condition. Not one single dead pixel! I love this thing!

To clean out those glue, use cotton swap and wet it with Windex (mix with water) and gently rub against the glue. Then wipe the creen with a dampped paper towel. Works nicely!

One of the prior threads on the RAD-5 included a hotlink to the rebate center that allowed you to check the status of [your] KDS/OD rebate. I've searched in vain for the damn thread and can't find it....

Anyone have it bookmarked????

Rarely do I make a big purchase without lots of research, but because of the positive posts here I decided to go ahead and purchase 6 monitors with the 20% off and the $50 rebate. Hopefully this monitor is as good as you guys say it is. I was waiting for the price to get down to $200 for a TFT but figured since this is such a good monitor, I thought I might splurge a little. Now I'm just crossing my fingers for the rebate.

Thanks for spoting this deal,

Curly

Don't mean to disappoint you with this news, but isn't only one rebate allowed for every person, household or organization? Or that's what rebate's fineprint says.

I think the rebate only allows 1 per person.

You guys must have better Office Depots than I do here in Madison, WI. Both KDS monitors I have tried have had bad pixels. The one I have kept so far has at least 4 tiny pixels I can see, plus another 6 or so that are very faint. It had many more faint ones than that last night, but mysteriously have disappeared for some reason. (most can be seen on a all black background, only 2 are seen on a white background).

I wonder if KDS would send me a new one? Probably not, but I would be much more likely to get a new one from KDS than I would Office Depot.

I went in on this deal, too. Anyone notice that the top part of their screen isn't as bright as the bottom? Is that normal? Not really noticeable unless you have a full screen of one color like the desktop.

I got in on this deal, and received my monitor two days ago. Not too shabby, though the glue on the screen is ridiculous. They should really think that process. I still haven't tried alcohol or windex/water yet to remove it. Only one dead pixel, unnoticeable unless the screen is black. For $230, I really can't complain.

<< I have a question (kinda silly but can't find any resources for this). How do you get rid of the sticky residue left when you remove the film? Also how do you best clean the LCD and safely? >>

The best way to get rid of the glue is to use a very soft erasing rubber, the one used by designers. Sanford Magic Rub is a good choice. After all the glue is rubbered out, I usually clean everything with Endust and a soft cloth. Endust is by far the best TFT monitors cleaner.

You guys with the dead pixels, I'd advise you not to worry too much. I had one with 1 bad pixel and missing a mouse so I exchanged it with OD and got one with a few dead pixels. So I used KDS KARES program and they sent me another LCD. Did you know they send refurbished/used monitors? They do. So they sent me another one and it too had dead pixels. I called them up and said, "I am going to keep using KARES til I get a perfect one" and the guy got upset and said you need x dead pixels to send in for exchange. So I said, yeah I have two and he said no, you need ALOT more than that.

Anyways, after a while it's totally not worth the hassle. Dead pixels are not that rare or unheard of and depending on the number and where they are, you will not notice them anymore.

Happy to say I have no dead pixels on my RAD-5. I guess some people get what they deserve (inside joke).

I used "Goo be Gone" and a paper towel to get the glue off my monitor. I then just wiped the whole screen with a damp paper towel to clean it up. Worked perfectly, no damage and squeaky clean. Took about 5 min.

Found the answer to my own question (above), in reference to [your] rebate status.....

The only nice thing about the overly simplistic website, is that there's an (800) number to call.

Shall we all call and let "them" know what the AnandTech Effect is all about????

edit - actually there's several 800 numbers listed:

- (800) 962-4664
- (888) 738-9201

as well as an e-mail address for the Expressgroup.com

I'm still waiting on a rebate for a 17" KDS CRT from September and that one isn't even showing up on the web site yet. The August rebate has showed up on the web site.

Name Address Amount Rebate Status
xxxxxxxxx MD 20817 50.00 Request in Progress
Description: KDS/RAD-5 15"LCD FLAT PANEL/OFF DEP DDD

The rebate was initially denied with an explanation that the rebate form was not an original because I printed the pdf from the web. Fortunately an OD csr credited the $50 to my cc. My credit card company will not put a charge in dispute over rebate so I was lucky OD came through for me.

update: Got my $10 KDS rebate in the mail today!! Came on a postcard just like the staples rebates do.
good luck with your rad-5 rebates.

poppagene - is the rebate you just received for the August or September purchase? Does the website show any change in the rebate status?

Thanks!

What that rebate place is doing is illegal, as it clearly states on the Office Depot web page that you are to print out the rebate and mail it in.
