AC4L.com

that's the letter L not the number 1 they have some decent prices. acoustic research makes good bang for the buck cables. i use their coaxial digital cable in my home theater setup it was cheap and works great.

bump for AC4L and Acoustic Research cables!!

i use mostly AR in my system and find it gives much better price/performance ratio than most competing consumer-grade porducts in the same price range (esp Monster). sure you can get $1k interconnects, but i'd rather spend $960 on a new system and $40 on the audio cable. =)

also AC4L is a Florida (Orlando) company, w00t.

I got some real cheap toslink cables from these guys about 2 or 3 years ago. Great service and quick shipping.

<< Can you use this with the logitech z560? >>

Yeppers.

I have 560zs' also, but didn't use speakerwire. Instead, I used Cat5 cable....much better than any monster wire I had lying around....and it shielded just great against all the comptuer noise.

One Cat5 to the fronts, one Cat5 to the rear. Cat5 has eight wires total, so I spliced 2 of the 26g wires to each lead....4 total leads.

Why you ask? Because I have 2 spools of Cat5, and a friend who work in advertising/music tracks recommended that I use it.

This is a good deal for those who need flat wire. If you don't need flat, 16 gauge white lamp cord is much cheaper from an electrical supply store or Home Depot. A good price for the 16 gauge white lamp cord is 13 cents per foot. So the flat is 3 times as expensive plus shipping.

Actually AR cable is made by Recoton which is also a Orlando, FL company (okay so it's actually Lake Mary or something) but w00t for another O-towner.

Marantz had some very tough years after Saul sold the company to Superscope. They drug the name into the mud by putting the Marantz name on any cheap boombox. Since Philips bought them, they are putting out good stuff again. FWIW.. FYI.. Philips is the parent company. Magnavox is the budget brand and Marantz is their premium brand. Marantz is very respectable now, but it aint like the old days when Saul Marantz was making tube amps out of his garage.

hrm, lampcord wire?!? But the whole reason you use more expensive wire is because: 1) It's wound differently 2) Oxygen free and 3) of better quality?
I would think that lampcord wire uses lower grade materials thus giving you inferior quality. Just my take on it, and I could be wrong.

About the whole Recoton thing, it seems as though even though Recoton makes cables under both names, the AR speaker wire IS different. On Audioreview.com if you look at the review for the Ar speaker wire, there's a guy that bought both cables. Says that the inner core of the AR wire is more tightly wound with an outer core of 75-100 wires. This is in comparison to the Recoton wires which seem to have less strands and less tightly packed. But whatever, go read for yourself

They also have Recoton 14 gauge, 40 ft. spools for $2.99 for those that believe wire is wire.

I can tell you were to shove your double blind test. My problem with the double blind test is that you are using something in the signal path to test the cables. How do you know that this "box" is not creating a sonic signature itself?

You know what.. With cables at these prices, it doesn't matter much. This is where the marketing gets its suckers. This cable is just one step up from lamp cord and if you are using a 10 year old piece of crap, appliance store receiver, it's not going to make one iota of difference what you use.

Wfay: Heh.. You snuck your post in while I was replying. Audio Asylum won't even allow discussions of double blind tests because they never lead anywhere and it just ends up being a nasty flame war.

That John Reisch CAT5 cable recipe looks interesting. It also looks like an aweful lot of work. Have you heard a set?

Just to let you know on the Z560's. I have them and I'm using the lamp cord that came with the set. You can probably use this cable if you can get the wire through the teeny 5 way binding posts on the satellites and squeeze the wire into the spring clips on the sub without breaking them.

What's funny is that these speakers are meant to mimic the high end speakers with the metal phase cone on the drivers and the 5-way binding posts. Heh.. With the size of the binding posts though, you can't fit any wire of substantial size on them unless you terminate the cable with pins (worthless anyway) and I highly doubt that the phase plugs on the tiny drivers help to do anything but look cool.

The problem with the Z560's btw isn't the sats IMO. They are fine for computer speakers. The problem is the sub. I've never heard a sub that was more uncontrolled than this thing. It's just way too boomy in the mid-bass and what's tragic is that you can't turn it down low enough to keep it from getting boomy. I have my bass volume button all the way down and it's not enough. I won't use the EQ either on Winamp because it just creates noise when it's activated. I might end up doing surgery on the sub to see if I can tighten up the bass a bit. I might change the interal wiring, replace a few caps, brace up the box and put in some sound deadening material to absorb some of the standing waves.

OTOH.. I might just dump these things and get a decent set of pc speakers because it seems like too much work for what it's worth. These speakers are great if you want to piss off the neighbors, shake the walls or scare the cat, but if you want to listen to music like I do, they are completely worthless.

OrlandoTiger: Your question has been answered at least twice in this thread-use lampcord. Anything else is snakeoil-99.9% of what you are paying for is marketing hype.
