Good deal on Toshiba 1600 DVD, but only in limited areas... $119

Believe it or not, I found this at a Safeway grocery store here in Portland. They have the Toshiba 1600 DVD player for $149. Got a coupon in the mail last week for $10 off any purchase over $50, and Toshiba had a Mail in Rebate for $20 on this model, bringing the price down to $119. Link for the rebate here. This is good for anyone who bought the Toshiba between Jan. 12 and March 31, 2001.

I don't know how wide the region is for Safeway, or which stores its available at, but I do remember seeing this model for sale in a Vons in Mammoth Lakes, CA not too long ago, and they are owned by Safeway as well.

The brand new Safeway (with underground parking) at SE 39th & Powell Blvd has a few Toshiba SD1600 DVD Players for $149, I'm not sure where exactly in the store they are located though.

I heard that the Toshiba SD1600 is actually a lower end model compared to last years Toshiba SD1200, I guess they wanted to better distinguish the entry level model with the SD2200 or whatever the next level is. So if you can get a SD1200 then do it, otherwise the SD1600 is a REALLY nice DVD Player. The best bang for your buck!

The Toshiba SD1600 is considered one of the top two or three entry level DVD players. I got mine back in december for what was then a damn good price of $160 at Best Buy. For 119, it is a steal.

I have both the 1200 and 1600 model and both are great players. The 1600 is not a step back, nor a giant leap forward. The only noticible difference I see is that the 1600 has a better designed remote control. The 1200 is no longer in production.

While the Toshiba 1600 is a very good player, it does have one drawback that might bother certain people. It is the inability to play CDR disks. This might not be important now, but in the next year or so, people will start experimenting more with making their own video disks. This player won't be able to play these homemade disks.

Since I am into editing movies on my computer, I was going to experiment with putting on CDR, so this does bother me a little. All this being said, this player is great for watching movies, which is the only thing 99.9999 percent of people will do.

got mine for $94.96 during the Passport/800.com days , I love it, $119 is a good deal, the remote is a pita unless you have a light on.
