I was going to go with Yamaha 5890 or rx-v1500 but the BBB gave it a 'F' grade on customer service and repair.

I beleive, that not having Dolby Prop Logic IIx is a big deal , that allows 2.1 and 5.1 to be converted to 7.1

Being a proud owner, it's a great receiver for its price class. I paid $719 in a combo deal through Crutchfield last X-mas. At $399, it's a steal! Nice find OP!

I just ordered one. I heard it at a display at CC and was amazed at the sound clarity.
It'll go well with my Oppo dvd player.

Yes you are right, the Onkyo website has the correct specs and IIx is one of them, this is a definite for me

DPLIIx converts 2.0, 5.1, and DD EX into 6.1 or 7.1. The real advantage is 2.0 to 6.1 or 7.1, as 5.1 channel sound is better matrixed to 6.1 or 7.1 via DD-EX or DTS-ES. The TX-SR702 can use DTS Neo:6 to convert stereo up to 6.1 or 7.1.

I highly recommend this reciever, I picked it up about 6 months ago for the same price and it looked brand new.
