Matthew 6:1-4 said:
Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

I taught a man how to fish, so he may be fed for a lifetime

I did this as well. Well, I told him the public library probably has books on fishing and that he should go read one of those and stop begging me for change because its really annoying but its basically the same thing.

I think seeing your name listed in the Child's Play 2013 donation drive that will be starting in ATOT next week is an acceptable level of bragging

There will be donation matching as always

On the subject of donations... What do you guys think is better; a small amount each to numerous organizations, or a large amount to one? I go by the numerous small donations theory. Any single donation is almost meaningless, but many people giving a little bit can get something done.

A small number for me. I give to exactly 4 charities:
- Child's Play (see you next week)
- Sister Connection - Burundi widows and orphans, I know some of the people involved
- Northwest Harvest - supplies food banks throughout WA state
- Seattle Times Fund - like United Way for WA state, except they cover 100% of fundraising costs themselves instead of taking a cut of the donations.

What do you think?

I think Facebook has become a cesspool of depressed validation-seeking individuals. People going on and on about how busy they are, how good they are, how much they have to thank the lord for, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.

My Face is where it's at. Everyone knows this.

I read a post a friend of mine put on Facebook were they say:

"I did a good deed today by giving the trash man a tip so they could have lunch on me today...what good deed have you done?"

I think the best good deeds are the ones you do because it makes someone else feel better and not to make yourself feel or look better.

What do you think?
Talk is cheap what have you done for humanity today?

bragging automatically negates a good deed

if somebody has to know you did a good thing, then you did it for the wrong reason

It doesn't work like that. If you donate to a charity and they feed a family of starving African children does posting on Facebook take the meal out of their stomachs? The good deed was done. If they look stupid afterwards to their group of friends does it really matter?

Amen to that.

The only persons who need to know about your good deed are the giver and recipient of the deed. Bragging just cheapens the deed completely or makes one look like an attention whore at best.

The greatest unselfish deed a person ever does is swallow. Everything else is done for a selfish motive

Everyone likes to give positive feedback about hearing about one's good deeds towards others but far fewer actually do it at least very often. I did my share of good things for people as well as bad but neither of which no one else will hear about from me.

You greatly underestimate the power of Facebook.
