No, its a discussion about...
"I went to the dentist...he said my gums were inflamed...what's the best way to...reduce swollen gums?"
The OP is specifically asking about TREATMENT for an existing condition, not prevention. All discussion should be within that context, which I was staying within.
Your advice works well as a treatment for an existing condition, this is true. For maintenance of healthy gums on a regular basis, hydrogen peroxide is not recommended.
Alcohol solutions like Listerine shrivel, dry up, and kill cells on the surface layer.
Hydrogen Peroxide is an oxidizing agent. This means it absorbs electrons from the tissues in the mouth as it breaks down into oxygen and water. This absorption of electrons (oxidation) is what can create cancer when performed often and repeatedly. The prevention of oxidation induced cancer is why there is a vitamin craze for anti-oxidants.
Otherwise, everything that tcsenter mentioned concerning the method and effectiveness of a hydrogen peroxide treatment is correct and useful.
